Agree with Dale Vince. League 2 clubs cannot end season and argue for promotion to League 1 without accepting relegation from League 2 to the National League.

Dale Vince
"Big news just now is that League Two may be allowed by the EFL to vote on ending the 19/20 season, prematurely - with 10 games to go. I think the decision itself is premature, the background is moving fast, the Bundesliga are just starting to play out their season and a new breakthrough in testing was announced only this week - we don’t have to decide now if this is possible. But that appears to be where most clubs in L2 are at - we’ll accept that of course if it goes to a vote next - it’s democratic.

But it’s inconsistent of clubs in L2 to suggest to the EFL that there should be no relegation this season because we’ve been unable to play the last 10 games and at the same time expect there to be promotion in the exact same circumstance. That's hypocritical in my view.

If we call the season based on where we all sit when the music stops - that should apply top and bottom."

If all the leagues take the same stance (and it has been muted) then there can be no promotion unless the premiership expand and absorb the extra numbers.

Taking an extra two teams would allow the lower leagues to fill their automatic places but not those usually filled by playoff teams so 2 up from the championship and league 1 and 3 up from league 2 because league 1 is a team short anyway. The big winners from this system would be the national league who could promote 3 teams rather than the usual 2. The downside would be that county would probably return at the first attempt.

The premiership could then use this system to demonstrate they are distributing the wealth down the leagues by taking the extra teams.

I don't however think this will happen as teams wouldn't agree who to promote.

Dale Vince
"There’s fair bit of confusion about the outcome of last week’s L2 meeting, with the media saying it was a vote and the EFL saying it was an indication of direction of travel......the proposal I object to most is the one that suggests we have four promotions into L1 but because we cant finish the season we have no relegations. That position is illogical, inconsistent and has no integrity."

Dale Vince is spot on about this. If there is no relegation to the National League then League 2 clubs cannot be promoted to League 1. You cannot have one without the other. It would be completely unfair and would bring the EFL into disrepute.

What I’d want to know is why the clubs voted to suspend relegation.

If the vote is 20-4 to suspend relegation why?

It affects the integrity of the competition for a start
How can you have promotion but not relegation?
And would clubs like Norwich argue that they should that’s relegation from their competition into the EFL I’d the EFL suspend relegation from their own competition - something I’d imagine championship clubs are nervously waiting on.

Not that I suspect we’ll get one, but if JR did vote to suspend relegation I’d be really intrigued as to why?

including:

5. The principle of relegation across all three divisions is integral to the integrity of the pyramid, from the Premier League down to the National League, provided we have assurances that the National League will start season 2020/21 (i.e. the relegated Club in League Two has somewhere to play).

English Football League: Promotion and relegation to remain if seasons curtailed

Clubs will still be promoted and relegated from the three divisions of the English Football League if seasons are ended amid the coronavirus crisis.

Play-offs will also be played, but with no more than four teams.

The EFL has confirmed that 51% of clubs in either the Championship, League One or League Two need to agree for a campaign to be curtailed.

If a season is ended, the final table will be decided by an unweighted points-per-game system.

Clubs voted to end the League Two campaign immediately on 15 May, also proposing that no team should be relegated to the National League.

However, with the EFL including relegation in its framework for curtailing a season early, Stevenage would go down from League Two.

Swindon, Crewe and Plymouth would be automatically promoted to League One.
Endeavoring to persevere since 1965 (8-1 home win against QPR)

I can see legal action over this both from relegated clubs and also some who miss out on the playoffs.

League Two: How did your club react to the season being cancelled early? No comment from the Stags.

Well done to Port Vale (8th) and Bradford City (9th) for taking it on the chin and voting to end the season for the greater good of the league.

John Radford said on facebook "it’s not perfect but the best for football". He also noted that if it had been a year ago we would have been promoted!

Don't forget also that John Radford led the League Two response to this matter, chairing the meeting of League Two clubs and writing to Rick Parry about it.

Hopefully the club finds the time to respond, cannot be that difficult to string a few words together.

Indeed. Though as Martin says he did write a letter on behalf of some, as woodclanger says, the media aren’t clever on lower league football sometimes! (Most of the time!)

Why should the club comment, fair play to clubs that do, but again you don’t need to. The votes been cast. What’s the problem? Oh yes, folk making a drama out of us not commenting on something again. Does everyone say which party they vote for in an election? No!

Ollie Bayliss (Presenter of The Non-League Show, Football Commentator & Journalist at BBC Three Counties Radio)

Stevenage's relegation is far from certain. It's dependent on several things:
-EFL clubs voting for the framework
-Macclesfield given no more points deductions
-The National League promoting 2 clubs
-The National League assuring the EFL that next season will happen

Not heard that saying for years

I think the EFL have made the right decision and am glad they haven't voided the season, which I think is wrong at every level including the non-league where surely they could have found a way to reward those clubs who had done so well up to the start of the lockdown. Points per game seems to be the fairest way so any league would have been able to finish using that very simple formula.

It gives the impression they don't care.
It is a major issue for a lot of clubs.
Had itbeen last season I'm sure we would be saying a lot.
It wouldn't have taken much to have made even a short statement. The vast majority of clubs have.
I'm all for sticking up for our club. However, I think no response is a poor response.
