So long and thanks for the memories.

Though I don’t think that JD has learnt more in his short tenure as our manager than he could have first envisaged. A great shame. But should the opportunity arise, in the future, to promote from within I hope we do as everyone has to start somewhere.

Good luck for the future John.

How would Stags fans have reacted if we had appointed JD as manager after he had been a successful youth team coach at Coventry City?

Football managers get written off too soon Dave. Unfortunately the vast majority of them are never given another chance to learn from their mistakes and improve. You have to be a success first time or that's it.

Can you think of any managers who failed in their first EFL 92 job and then succeeded after being given another chance?

Hopefully he works on their fitness more!!! Pleased for him but he seems a pushover. Too nice. He needs a nasty side too imo.

He's still young enough to become a successful manager and prove us all wrong.

The state of the players, after a near miss of promotion, was too much for any rookie manager to put right in the short term. It needed someone with experience.

Why do you need to have a nasty side to develop kids into professional footballers?

Not certain it works like that. The club and John will have signed a Compromise Agreement with a settle amount equivalent to the salary to the end of his contract and stops him talking about his time at the club. Just because he got another job won't effect his payout.

I hope he does the same as Adam Murray and succeeds in a secondary role but at a higher level club. Some times a forced change is good for your career and your bank balance.
