The only midfielder we had who's capable of playing a forward pass

We have to sign somebody now we’ve let go the only midfielder we have who possesses any kind of quality and composure on the ball.

Our midfield is in a sorry state, so little quality it’s actually frightening.

If this doesn’t mean we are bringing someone in, it’s a massive ricket

So in midfield we’ve got:

Bishop - legs have been gone for a year now and possesss absolutely no quality on the ball whatsoever.

MacDonald - a very average winger who’s doing an underwhelming job of masquerading as a centre midfielder.

Tomlinson - has basically only played professional football with us and he’s not performed well since he joined us. I’m not sure what he’s supposed to be good at and what attributes he brings to the table.

Charlsey - coming off of a very long term injury and hadn’t played professionally before joining us. We’ll see what he can do for us going forward.

Watts - a centre half who’s very inexperienced. Very small sample size of course but his lack of mobility on Tuesday night was a bit concerning for his midfield prospects. Like Charsley, we’ll see how he performs moving forward.

It’s an extremely uninspiring midfield group. MacDonald, Bishop and Tomlinson in my opinion comprised the worst central midfield group in the league, and we need two rookies to improve on that. I’m relatively confident that Coughlan’s ideas and focus on fitness will extract a bit more out of this group than what we’ve seen so far this season.

Hopefully we bring in another midfielder tonight!

Central midfield is the most difficult position on a football pitch to play well.

At this moment in time our available options are very very worrying

Jacob Mellis is one of the best passing midfield players I have seen play for the Stags. He should be easily be playing in League 1. However due to lack of self discipline, lack of professionalism, failing to live the life of a footballer, carelessness, idleness, lack of intelligence, tendency to self destruct etc (pick any that you think apply) he will never make the most of his considerable footballing talents.

Thanks very much Jacob for your efforts last season. You were a big player for us. It was great to watch you when you were on song. I hope you go on to prove me and many other Stags fans wrong. All the best.

64(20) league appearances and 4 goals.

I wonder if Jacob will be off to Bolton to reunite with DF.

His brilliant goal in the last minute at Lincoln last season will always be fondly remembered.

As bothered that he’s gone as he was about putting a shift in. Lost interest in him months ago.

Good riddance.

Most talented player we had..didn’t work out for numerous reasons...why do we never get the best from players....we have a history of always missing out on their ability. They move on and succeed time and time again.

Mellis has wanted out for ages. It's been obvious for months
