EFL Chairman, Rick Parry, has concerns over 'another Bury'

Parry said: "I can't say Bury will be the last, there may be more fall-out."

Parry's concerns were echoed by former Wigan chairman David Sharpe, who said he "would not be surprised" if in the next five years a Championship club dropped out of the Football League.

6 point deduction for non payment of salaries

BBC breaking news Macclesfield Town have been docked six points by the English Football League after pleading guilty to charges over non-payment of wages and failing to fulfil their fixture with Crewe.

Because there are no rules, and where there are rules the fa don't dare administer them.

Just a few fusty old suits making it up as they go along.

It was the contempt, that he held those that stood in the pouring rain watching that dross in, which was the final nail in the coffin for him with me.

Match may be off as local SAG has reduced capacity of ground to zero.

EFL statement: Macclesfield Town v Plymouth Argyle

from https://www.efl.com/news/2019/december/ ... ield-town2

Macclesfield Town’s fixture with Plymouth Argyle will not go ahead as planned on Saturday 21 December after the club was issued with a zero capacity notice by the local Safety Advisory Group (SAG).

The notice was served by the SAG on Thursday and the club, with the assistance of the EFL, had spent the intervening 24 hours working on a solution in respect of the outstanding inspections and tests required at the Moss Rose Stadium that would ensure the capacity was reinstated.

Despite making significant progress, the SAG is not satisfied all its requirements have been met and have maintained the capacity of the stadium at zero, resulting in the club informing the League it would not be in a position to fulfil the fixture with supporters in attendance.

The club did request to play behind closed doors, however on consideration, as per the provisions in Regulation 33.1, the EFL did not agree to the request.

The core principles behind EFL competitions are that all its fixtures are to be played in front of spectators and playing behind closed doors significantly increases the risks of crowds congregating in the vicinity of the stadium.

As a result of the game not going ahead, the club will be charged with misconduct for failing to fulfil its fixture obligations.

The club received a six-point deduction on Thursday after pleading guilty to charges of non-payment of wages and failure to fulfil its fixture obligations. A further four points were suspended as a result of the charges.

Looks like more points deductions will ensue. I can’t see Macclesfield finishing this season in the league. It is baffling how Bury were allowed so much leeway last year..
Mansfield Town, my club even though been exiled in London since 1983.

Six points deducted already (subject to the obligatory appeal) take away the four points that are suspended and that leaves them bottom.

Bottom, with further punishment (most definitely more points to be deducted), payment of players becoming an ad-hoc affair with cash flow and revenue through a lack of fixtures played making anyone wishing to take over think twice.

Macclesfield may now be a club in its death throes, not helped by the EFL now adopting a hardline stance. Banks, lending institutions, benefactors and ‘investors’ may now think again about putting their money into football as the likelihood of a club limping along infinitum is diminishing. Football as we know it at our level is changing at an ever greater rate of knots so the question is ‘What governance reforms will the EFL enact to ensure football other than the top flight survives and thrives for generations to come?’

Enjoy the Stags whilst you can, for the EFL, is showing signs of going the way of the Mansfield Sunday League.

Long for those days back. Every pub, every works had a team. I think back in the early 80s there were 15 divisions. Now, what is it, three?

Since then how many pubs gone, every single pit, the brewery, all the hosiery factories, most of the major employers. These were the places that drove the Sunday League.
Politics aside (it's irrelevant in this case) the loss of major employer, that employed 100s or 1,000 of people has lead to a great loss in social cohesion. That cammoraderie built in the work place, continued outside in the pubs & sports clubs.
People seem to separate work/social lives these days, we have longer commutes, employment is more transient, communities more fragmented as a result.

The death of the Sunday Leagues is just another symptom of the loss of community.
Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.
