Flitcroft thoughts on being pipped by Bury and their demise

Postby Chadman » Wed Aug 28, 2019 10:56 am

Flitcroft upset for the people of Bury to lose their club but also upset to be out of work and beaten to promotion by a side playing players they could not afford to employ.

I also live in MK and the constant reminder of failure is rather annoying. I agree with Dan, despite whatever happened at Bury we had plenty of opportunities to help ourselves and didn’t, sadly Stadium MK is a pretty huge symbol of that to me.

Nothing to do with liking him the man is an abject failure who pissed our biggest ever budget up the wall.

Luckily we are in a position to just change the manager every year if things don’t go quite to plan, or if some people don’t quite like the man in charge.

What a truly sorry state of affairs. I feel saddened by the loss of a stalwart of English football, saddened by people getting a cheap shot in on a former manager and saddened by the truly awful Chad website.
The whole thing is just a bit sad.

Why is it a cheap shot on the former manager?
He said he was upset about being out of work and Dan said he was to blame for his own demise.

Maybe cheap shot wasn't the best way of describing how I feel.
It just seems insignificant is what I meant at a time when a town/community has had a major organ ripped out.

The Bury finance model the last time they got promoted appeared from the outside to be borrowing loadsamoney to pay off the previous set of loans & keep hitting repeat. I can only think the idea was to keep borrowing until they got high enough up the pyramid that the TV money would service the debt. It was a model that could only ever result in bankrupting the club and plenty of fans warned about it at the time.

DF was part of that model, but it didn't seem to bother him when it was bankrolling his team to promotion with illusiory money.

Bury have been a fiscal basket case for years, they aren't alone. There are so many irresponsibly run clubs out there, that the only surprise is that more haven't gone the same way in the last 20 years. I suppose if a club has the good grace to get relegated out of the league before they fiancially implode it's not newsworthy.
Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.

I’m clearly in the minority here. Makes a change. I have sympathy for those who lost their jobs.
I have no sympathy after that. We are the main club who were hard done to by the financial mismanagement at Bury.
Flitcroft has a point but the usual shower of Mr Victim type tools can’t see that.

You have no sympathy for the generations of people for which the football club gave them a reason for being?

I've followed the Stags for over 50 years and would miss them terribly if they no longer existed. So I do feel sorry for the fans and those who have lost their jobs. However, they must lead sad lives if the only reason for being was their football club.

Clubs like Bury and ours have deep roots in their communities and their demise has enormous emotional impact.

On the other hand, “nouveau” league clubs that fail barely leave a scar. Do many people really care about Maidstone, Rushden & Diamonds, Scarborough, etc.

Anyone who has no sympathy for Bury fans who literally have lost their club are a large part of the problem with modern football.

I have sympathy for the fans, they have lost the club they support all because of the idiots who were allowed to ruin a club by the EFL.

Our failure to go up automatically was our own fault, not just DF's fault but the players too - we bottled it, plain and simple. To pick up zero points in the last 3 game run in, when 1 would have been enough in scandalous in any way you try and look at it. No external factors can mask that serious case of blowing it!
