Not an uncommon surname for the lad, I wonder if he is any relation.

No relation at all, purely a coincidence. Met through being legal advisor when taking Haslam on.

To be fair, Stagsnet would not be Stagsnet, without some poor sod being judged through guilt by association before he has had chance to have a go!

Sounds like a good bloke, local and educated.

I arranged a meeting between JR and Pinsent Masons Solicitors in Leeds in October 2010 to consider legal action against Keith Haslam in respect of the illegal dividend/breach of director's duties that arose in relation to the transferring of Field Mill from the football club to Keith Haslam. JR wanted to obtain advice from a large commercial law firm. Steve Hymas and Andy Saunders attended the same meeting. Bill Broughton was the head of Commercial Litigation at Pinsents. It turned out that Bill came from Notts and his grandfather used to own Betts & Broughton's shoe factory in Huthwaite. It also turned out that he lived near JR at Barnby Moor near Retford (small world!).

Bill left Pinsent Masons in 2014 to set up One Call Legal and now becomes a director of Mansfield Town. It's strange how your life can work out. I bet Bill never envisaged becoming a director of the Stags when we walked through his office doors 9 years ago.

P.S. He is not related to Paul or Tina Broughton.

P.P.S. I think he knows George Foster's Beard from school.

Just listened to his interview and it's obviously to help out with any more Paul Anderson / Zander Diamond type contract disputes!

I congratulated Bill last night and told him that our contracts should be a lot better now but the main thing he needs to focus on is making sure all the players we sign have proper medicals.

I've been listening to the Undr the Cosh podcasts by John Parkin and Chris Brown. John Parkin said most of his medicals involved him just touching his toes including when he signed for Fleetwood. He also said he failed the medical at Cardiff due to a knee injury but Dave Jones decided to sign him anyway. He was on around £9k per week at Cardiff and made 2(9) league starts scoring 1 goal. Clubs need someone to protect them against a manager wasting a load of money signing a crock or doing a favour for a mate. All players at the end of their careers are also just looking for a last pay day even though they know they are going to be struggling to get back to their best after injuries.

Chris Brown also said that Flitcroft didn't do a medical with him at Bury, and a week later he was out for the season.
