What makes it even funnier is said director named Hakeem as someone who he should have picked. Then the academy manager, who has spent years developing said player, has deemed him not good enough.

Let's be honest here. I'd believe the opinions of Flitcroft and Dempster on players over said director. I remember the last time he publically slated a manager. That manager was Paul Cox, who went on to win the league.

If and a big if, we get a real good player come through and we sell him at some point, we would never recover the amount spent on all the other players. We’ve been terrible at it in the past and so has nearly every other club. Just good club PR. I wonder how much money we lose through it in reality, without the help of the owner etc.

Lawrence, Baptiste, Disley, Hassell, Buxton, Arnold etc.
The football league provide grants towards academy set ups.

Agree with those but did we make much money out of them? It just seems a lot of effort for very little reward imo.

Not just about big transfer fees though. Add to that list Wagstaff, Mike Stringfellow, Morris, Boam, Wood, Calderwood, Galloway, Robinson, Coleman, Ian Stringfellow, Pearcey, Ward, Clarke, McKernon and probably a lot more than I can think of off the top of my head. Some were sold for a decent amount at the time, some gave years of service, some filled up a squad place to give cover. All of them played a part though and were good enough to make it as professional footballers

These are the youngest players from 2004 listed in the Stags programme

Zayn Hakeem (17 years 18 days) (Released)
Corbin Shires (17 years 121 days)
Joe Fitzpatrick (17 years 173 days)
Austin McIntosh (17 yeras 183 days)
Lewis Trimmer (17 years 186 days)
Danny Fletcher (17 years 311 days)
Jack Thomas (17 years 312 days) (Basford United)
Jamie McGhee (17 years 204 days)
Warren Burrell (17 years 334 days)(Harrogate Town)
Ryan Goward (17 years 345 days)

Conor Higginson should have been included in the list as he was 17 years and 3 months old approx when he made his debut as a sub in a 2-0 away defeat at Northwich Victoria.

Tom Naylor made his debut on 21st April 2009 in a 2-0 home win against Altincham. He was around 17 years and 9 months old so he should also have been in the list.

Looking at the list in the programme, I think Conor Higginson and Tom Naylor were excluded because it states the Top 10 youngest players to play for the Stags in League 2 since 2004.

Higginson and Naylor played in the Conference Premier. Tom Marriott played in the EFL Trophy.

Nathan Arnold made his league debut in December 2005 but was then 18 years and 5 months old.

Nick Langford played in the Setanta Shield against York City away on 4th November 2008. He was only 16 so would have been top of the list but he was left out because it was not a League 2 game.

Tom Marriott played against Port Vale in the EFL Trophy on 4th October 2016. He was 17 years and 10 months old.
