Surprised at the release of Nial Blake and James Tague, both looked useful in their respective setups.

Wish all the lads well, I've enjoyed watching you all do your best for t'club

Why did they wait until now to confirm it when they told all the lads months ago? They could've been getting themselves fixed up elsewhere.

Because they still had contracts to run till the end of the season.

As far as I’m aware it was only the u21s who got told and not the U18s.

The youth system is a complete and utter waste of time. If and a big if, we get a real good player come through and we sell him at some point, we would never recover the amount spent on all the other players. We’ve been terrible at it in the past and so has nearly every other club. Just good club PR. I wonder how much money we lose through it in reality, without the help of the owner etc.

We normally offer around 4 or 5 players from the U18s an U21 contract although we have already released three of the four we gave contracts to you last season (Nyle Blake, Harry Bircumshaw, Iyrwah Gooden).

Who do we have left in the U21s? - Jordan Graham (21), Alistair Smith (20), Jason Law (20), Tom Fielding (19) Keaton Ward (19), Aiden Walker (18), Tyrese Sinclair(18)

Who else is being kept on from the U18s? - Jamie Chisholm?, Jimmy Knowles?

1. They're under contract anyway

2. Soon as they were told nothing would of stopped them looking for another club. Many will have already been to exit trials

3. Again they don't need to wait for a website article to be published before getting another club.

Pretty obvious really

They've only announced it due to numerous people contacting the club and asking for more clarity in to the status of youth players.

Agree with those but did we make much money out of them? It just seems a lot of effort for very little reward imo.

The academy is hardly a waste of time, when got players like Graham, Knowles and Gibbens coming through the ranks. Perhaps the reason why they got released was because they wasn’t good enough, ever considered that ?

I remember a certain director recently shouting from the rooftops that DF should be playing the kids.

Kids have to be given some game time to see if they are good enough. The problem is that the manager has to get results. Therefore he will put in experienced players as he daren't risk a kid.If a young player is exeptional he will force his way in.Obviously we have not got this type of player.I remember Peter Morris who played in the first team at 17.Baptiste made his debut at 16.Both players went on to have good careers. If the kids are good enough they will come through.
