Our ground

Postby Old timer » Mon May 13, 2019 5:55 pm

Visiting other grounds over the past few seasons ours is beginning to show it's age. It also struggles to cope with bigger attendances. If we had gone up then I could see those bigger crowds becoming an issue. I think that at the same time as we strive for promotion we ought to be thinking about doing something about improving things for the fans. Big redevelopments would be costly but can we start to think about re-configuring what we have? For example to improve toilet facilities? I know some good work has been done but more is necessary.

I wish we had the money to knock it all down and start again and build something like MK have but that's not feasible. Crucially though we should stay where we are and definitely not move out of town like some clubs have done. That is one advantage we have over MK, Colchester etc

It's an absolute tragedy that Haslam had his fingers in the till when Field Mill was redeveloped, everything about it was cheap, nasty and halfarsed.

I wouldn’t, it has no soul and just an identikit ground with no atmosphere.

FM needs some tlc and a good clean up.

Some cladding on the back of the west stand, car park and training pitch landscaping. Revamped entrances to hospitality areas. Inside the technical area needs to be moved into the stand and the directors area needs extending to the next block to allow simitry and better hospitallity seats.

This will all hopefully get done once the hotel is started.

Once that’s all done we will hopefully be getting the attendances to redevelop the bishop street.

Prefer our ground with the two tiered main stand...

We just need a new small stand where bishop street is.. Tidy the corners up and the edges of the pitch, which they are doing... and the outside of the ground will look a lot nicer with the hotel

Cladding the outside to make it more presentable and modern is a great idea.

There's no intention to move away from Field Mill the plans for a hotel and new Bishop Street Stand are proof of that. Paul Broughton told me he advocates the stand first model over the hotel and also said that he wouldn't want a hotel in the corner so that later, they could fill the corners and connect the Quarry Lane and North Stands to the IGS.

Let's fill our ground first on a regular basis before talking about developing the ground.

I think we need to look sorting out the concourses on IGU. On the South side there is one toilet with space for 15 at a time at the urinals and the tea bars create huge log jams

The same applies to the IGU Upper North Side Will.

Hasloan clearly made some major cutbacks on toilets.

You just need a long wall with half a drainpipe flowing out onto the terraces

Sneer all you like. The prozac is a better design that Field Mill, both inside & out.

It’s also exactly the same as Shrewsbury etc. Another thoughtless modern soulless stadium.

Give me something like Accrington over that any day of the week.

Under Radford the ground has improved loads, it does need that 4th stand though.

Not yet it doesn't. Come the start of next season we'll probably be getting 4-4.5k at the games which means it'll be nowhere near full. Money needs to be diverted to the playing budget to get us up/challenging next season or crowds will fall away. No good having that nice empty stand on the Bish overlooking a team kicking around playing in mid table or worse.

Our playing budget is already ridiculously large for a club our size and the benefits of L1 football financially are negligible, so better facilities should take more importance.

Maybe an improvement to existing facilities yes Conker, but a new Bish which inevitably will divert an awful lot of money away from the playing side?
We are talking millions of pounds here, and it's not needed yet.

I would love to see Bishop Street stand back in use. Looks very non league at the moment. It would be great to have atmosphere on all sides of the pitch again. I agree that the extra capacity is rarely needed at the moment, but when it is needed it would help avoid The ticketing fiascos we have seen recently.

Training ground was built, and cost Hymas and Radford £1.5m plus a 500k grant.

Yes the toilets need sorting, the jam at half time etc is unacceptable but in general the ground suites our requirements as a League 2 club.

From what I hear the emphasis at the club has switched from a hotel to a new Bishop St stand so thing may be moving in that direction?

Vacant land though Conk, the Bish isn't. There's the houses, the access, the demolition, the infrastructure and the build. It'll cost imo an awful lot of money to do the job right, or would we want a half arsed Haslamesque effort we could all slate after Johnny's no longer here?
