Continuity is key and we'll keep most of this team together IMO, once the loan players have gone of course.

I agree, also I think we are forgetting who our owner is, many clubs in League 1 will not be able to afford Pearce or Benning, both of whom I believe are under contract for another season. If JR wants to keep them both, which I think he will, then it will take an offer only a few clubs in League 1 can afford for us to sell them. It's not like Haslam days where 50p and a bag of Wurthers would get you our best playes.

How much has the playoffs earned us? £500000-£1000000 is my guess. Hopefully the majority of this would be put to upgrading the squad.

My understanding is JR will continue to back the club for the foreseeable and whilst the extra income we have made this season will offset his "investment" into the club, I think even without it DF would be given a top 3 budget next season.

I'd take a reasonable offer for CJ personally, but on the other hand I can't see Flitcroft ever departing from this 3-5-2 system he persists with, so pace on the break is a necessity if we carry on into the new season unable to string more than 4 passes together.

We won't get many players with the pace of CJ without having to chuck money at them, as much as I don't really rate him as highly as a lot of folk do, pace is an expensive commodity in football.

CJ doesn't work in this formation though. Not good enough to play LWB and not strong enough to play up top. If we get a good offer we should take it and put all our money into proven strikers.

If they offer Rose a contract it should be on much lower basic and higher goal bonuses. Also time limit the offer to a couple of weeks - take it or leave it. We don't owe him any loyalty.

He has another year, as do many of our players I believe.

Logan
Olejnik

White
Benning
Pearce
Preston
Sweeney
Turner

Mellis
Bishop
Macca
Tomlinson
Khan
Atkinson? Thought he's always looked good as a centre mid not wingback, looked better than anything else we had last night when he came on.

Rose
Davies (Both as back ups)

Thats a good spine... Cash in on CJ, He'll be another Nathan Thomas, big money move to a championship club then loaned out to league one/two over and over.

Tyler Walker, simply been brilliant and carried us as our only striker. Show what you can do at forest or league one.
Grant, good player that still needs to learn a lot... Probably be on loan in this league again.
Jordan Smith, not bothered Logan and bobby both better.
Gethin Jones, Awful. Released by Fleetwood no doubt and signed by someone like morecambe.

Ajose... Id sign, theres a good player there if he was settled with a great preseason.
Elsnik, Make an offer to Derby. Hes brilliant for league two and was doing well in this side.

Pretty sure Pearce and Benning have a contract for another year so it’s up to us

Because we can do better than someone who scores 4 goals a season and throws a strop when he wanted to leave. He showed this club no loyalty and should of been sold when we had chance.

This all depends on what direction JR wants to go.
He could continue to go big or quite possibly reign it all back like he has previously.

Time will tell.

If he's going to back DF, he has to go all the way. Same

If he's not (and he shouldn't), a new manager with new ideas needed.

You quote the ideal scenario. I think we'll see a lot of the 'first team' leave, through loans terminating and through bids from other clubs, and what we're left with is all the squad players.

We may need a whole new attack line, 2 defenders, and 2 or 3 midfielders.

Wonder if this special relationship with forest provides us with anything.

My thoughts/Hope's next for season...

Some achievable others not as much...
(Based on selling CJ which is inevitable)

Bobby
(New back up)

Pearce Peter Clarke (free) Sweeney
(Preston) (Turner)

White Bishop Boateng (free) Benning
(O' Neill free) (Tomlinson) (mellis) (D Mcrory free)

Jamie Devitt (fee) Josh Morris (free)
(Khan) (N Thomas free yes him)

D Rowe (Fee)
(Davies)
(Graham)
Release
Logan
Mirfin
Sterling James

Transfer list
D Rose

Leaves W Atkinson A Smith to make a 24 man squad
(Unless I've missed someone which I probably have)

Others I would certainly be looking at budget dependant are

Leon Clarke free
Knight percival free
Marc Richard's free
M Blair free
George Maris free

In my opinion we lack MEN and leaders.

Peter Clarke would be a great signing , yes he's getting on but he's a leader.

The others are a mix of hope and real targets but there are players that are available on frees that would be brilliant signings.

Players come, players go, we have no say, clubs often have little say in who leaves when a player becomes unsettled.
As long as the money is right let those who want to go, leave.
In hindsight, we should have sold Rose.

If mind is ideal, yours is worst case... CJ may go but other than those on loan I just can't see many leaving. Do the likes of Pearce, Mal, Mellis wanna be L1 squad players? I doubt it... and it's not like we aren't paying good wages and looking after our boys.

Agree we need a whole new attack. But beyond that it's a back up wing back, a new Bish if one is available and maybe a swap for Khan / backup for Mellis. People like Atko, Rose can be replaced if he wants but they're steady squad players.

If we sign more than 7 new players will be shocked.

Benning and Pearce would both start in a lot of L1 teams. Not much difference between bottom of L1 and top of L2.

As I understand things, Bobby won't be fit until Oct / Nov which is a bit of a headache. He is also out of contract.

If Bobby is given a new contract we will still need two keepers in the first part of the season.

Maybe the answer is to keep Logan and also sign a keeper on loan until January.

While ever our manager whoever that may be is under pressure to get promoted youth team players wont get a chance unless they are exceptional.
I would love nothing more than a host of youth team players in our 1st team.

Do we have an exceptional prospect at the moment MTFCMAD ?
