David Mirfin (34) is a good player but I think his best days are behind him and he's very injury prone. I expect him to drop down to the National League.

I take it that you are being a trifle facetious here Edders?
Actually, I think Pearce would be a better forward choice than Sweeney, should we get desperate in the last few mins.

I thought the same last week VP at MkDonalds FC. I also wondered why we did not have Zayn Hakeem or Jimmy Knowles on the bench to chuck on for 5 minutes if we needed a goal as that is better than resorting to sticking a centre half up front (although we had already used up our three subs).

Unsettled their defenders, won a couple of headers which we hadn't won all game, drew the attention of their best header of the ball.

He achieved nothing, as evidenced by the Mansfield Town nil bit.

Thanks for that. You are aware a player can be effective but not score?

Well yes I am. As it goes I have seen one or two matches and played in a few too. Sweeney was sent forward to offer extra arial support to the front line (winning flick ons, having that bit of extra muscle to hold the ball up ect) so they could score. They didn't therefore Sweeney wasn't effective in that role.
Sweeney is a fine left sided centre back, a forward he ain't. If a game plan has gone the raspberries to the point where you need to send central defender forward, use Chief, excellent in the air, skilful on the deck and knows where the net is.

I agree - Pearce is the obvious choice to send forward, rather than Sweeney.

Pearce is not as good in the air as Sweeney, that’s why he wasn’t sent forward. Sweeney was purely there to win headers. If you’re sending a player forward to be skilful then there would be 5 others you could send before the defenders.

Are you just a contrary raspberry for the sake of it?

Nearly 12000 posts between you, you both talk too much
Thought Sweeney did OK when chucked up front at MKD, but would agree that Pearce would be more effective, but with the added risk of leaving us less secure at the back.

Personally I would put Turner up front if needed, better in the air than either Pearce or Sweeney and doesn't have as much pace as the other two in order to defend the counter. Adam Murray said this when commentating on MK.

Turner was a man mountain again tonight as we're all the centre backs, just a shame the rest of the team was so disjointed.

As good as Pearce has been especially this season Turner just looks the kind of person you make captain a real leader and no nonsense centre half.
Would be the first piece of business I’d do before other clubs come looking

Agreed. Now he is match fit he looks twice the player he was at Mardy Lane. He would be a great signing for next season. Some may say we already have enough defenders, but just one injury means no back up in his position.
