Bish will be missed in any game, hopefully the other players can step up when he is out for 2 games.

If Macca is ready for a match like he supposedly is playing tomorrow then he has another 2 weeks to get up to speed before he could be called upon if Bish is booked. Let’s see if he plays tomorrow!

I spoke to Macca at length before the game on Saturday. Told me how settled he is living in Southwell and considers this area his home now.

He was very pleased with how his injury has come on in the last few days. Told me what a good player Grant is now that he is training with him and can see it at close quarters. Told me he knows it will be tough to get into the team as they are playing so well. Reckoned he would be ready for the bench within two weeks.

MacDonald will be a massive boost to have on the bench.

I was a bit concerned about the strength in depth of our bench but having Macca back would really boost that! Any news on Craig Davies? Be good to have him play a part too.

Think he and Jamie McGuire both live in Farnsfield (not together), which is the southwel area.

He will be a huge return. I think he can do the Bishop role.

I don't, there aren't many players in Lge2 that read the game as well as Bish does.

Macca isn't the same type as player as Bishop. I see Macca more as a winger rather than a central midfielder - and he doesn't have the defensive qualities, or the touch, or ability to read a game in the way that Bishop does. I'm not sure that any player in league two is as good as Bishop at the 'Bishop role'.

I agree, in fact I am not sure where Macca's best position is, maybe wide right in a 4-4-2? That said, I very much like what I have read about Tomlinson, he does appear to tick all the boxes in terms of being able to at least partly fill the void left if Bish is suspended.

I think Evans initially putting Macca in CM and DF keeping him there was madness, he’s not a centre mid in a million years. I suppose he could do the 10 role but he’s behind Grant and Khan so that’s a waste of time.

That would be a great stat for Bishop if that was the only thing he did, he'd be up on the stats in just about every other benchmark.

I'm not sure where Macca's best position is, cant see him playing anywhere central through the team, he might actually be a useful right wing-back

I have to say, after watching him at Bradford Park Ave pre season when the game just passed him by, i thought omg here we go last pay day wife’s mates with the CEO, i then spoke to Scunnys manager at the time who lives next door who said “ you have your new talisman real 100% leader and midfield general give him a pre season then talk to me, speaking to him last night he said “ see what i mean “ have to say i’m still full on the humble pie i’m still eating, top player and the gel that holds us together
Bish is my player of the season to date

I did tell you when we signed him that he’d be player of the season, that we should build the team around him & make him club captain. I know a lot of you thought I was mad with how old he is but you won’t find a fitter player than Bish at his age.

I thought Bishop was pretty widely regarded to be quality, that's the feeling I got from the summer anyway.

If we were fortunate enough to make league 1 I can't see him wanting to retire

I think the key thing is to have our best squad available for lincoln, we could beat county without him , fgr would be more difficult, but if we beat newport that will put us in a good position to lose him, so rather than rest him and if he gets through newport but we win, then we could do without him and county is likely to be a match where both sides will pick up cards because of the animosity in the game.

If we start ranking games in terms of easy and hard and telling Bish to steady on in case he picks up a booking (or worse still rest him) then we are on a slippery slope. We just need to carry on on a game by game basis and keep the momentum we have.

Neal Bishop 7/8/1981 37 years.
Michael Doyle 8/8/1981 37 years.

Has there ever been an older key battle in the middle of the park during a professional game?
