One Game Wonders for Stags!

Postby Chadman » Mon Feb 04, 2019 4:06 pm

Last weekend I was looking back at a brilliant Paul Taylor list of Stags players who have only ever played one game for the club and it was fascinating to see the ones I had forgotten about and some I didn't even realise had turned out.

Can you remember these faces?

Surely Andy Jones away v QPR (22.02.2003) deserves a mention.
Substitute appearance halfway through the first half and then two bookings in around 5 minutes?
I don't think he ever played again?
First match : 04.01.1975 home v Cambridge Utd F.A.Cup 3rd Round 1-0 Clarke

Not a one game wonder, but Deadly Donaldson's brief flirtation with the stags was pretty impressive

I was at that game in Southend when Alabi did his cameo. That’s a night I never want to noire again

Mind you, looking at that list, it’s a shame we didn’t get Imre Varadi in his prime

Not quite a 1 match wonder but I always liked this guy

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aman_Verma_(footballer)

Think he scored an absolute worldy for us away at York. Can anyone dig out the footage?

Also of these other two signings that day, Marcus Kelly was a 1 match wonder.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/15873540

Nialle Rodney made 2 appearances.

Christ they were bleak days.

Not that it counts ...... but I once saw Emlyn Hughes play for Mansfield in a pre-season friendly in the 80's. Did anyone else see that game, or was it a dream?

Went to school with him. He effectively kicked Richard Langley twice if I remember correctly.

Just looked up Richard Cresswell but he played 5 times for us,can remember one wet midweek home match where he was absolute gash.Ended up with a decent career somehow.

my memory of Cresswell was a brilliant goal away at Rochdale. April 1997. He didn't score any other goals for us.

Nice build up play but it wasn't as good as I remembered it sadly.

Did we win,not a happy hunting ground is Spotland although I did see us win 1 0 there mid to early seventies, think a chap called Jones scored.

Andy Jones' 9 minute cameo here.

By the looks of the tackle he was lucky it wasn't a straight red, let alone a second yellow!... anyone know what happened to him after this?!

Andy played locally for a few seasons. At Rainworth, Shirebrook Town, AFC Mansfield and i think Lee Tryner signed him at Clipstone. I think he finished his career there.
