L2 Stadium (now hosting Non-League football)
Historic (was a League Club you know)

Does he live near Chesterfield? Only thing I can think of. Had Carlisle going well.

Lives in Sheffield (localish) and doesn't like the trip to Carlisle (which is odd as the same trip would be there when he took it in the first place)

Correct. The lack of money and the fall out with Grainger also a big factor.
Carlisle was just an opportunity for him to step back on the ladder after Nottm County.

Players won't be fussed he's leaving trust me.

Am I right in thinking he has no experience of Non-League management?

He's highly demanding and likes to play football....when was the last time and out and out footballing side played their way out of the National League?

You have to mix it up, have a good few hoofers in there....

Paying top whack for a known big drinker, with no proven track record at Non-League level. It's only going to get worse in my opinion.

According to Wikipedia (not always reliable i know), but Sheridan hasn't completed a full season of football management at one side since 2015 at Plymouth. A 3 and a half year deal is crazy for someone so volatile.

Also, he was rumoured to have fell out with Allen last time.

He'll be leaving Chesterfield with a massive pay off by October.

Their fans surely cannot want him out now?, who else could or would want to sustain this level of investment.
Is this a "one last roll of the dice" to protect his asset?

Us with Paul Cox

Lincoln with the Cowley's

Luton with John Still

Bristol Rovers with Darrel Clarke

That's four names off the top of my head of clubs who had success in getting out of the national league by appointing managers with proven Non-League records, who were also known to "mix it up" a bit too.

I'm sure there's loads more you can all think of too.

That seems to be the proven formula, yet they've gone for someone who is more of a tippy tappy type manager, who has never managed in the National League as far as I know. His brother has, but never been overly successful.

Who knows, many (myself included) thought Martin Allen would be a decent appointment with experience of getting Barnet out of that league on several occasions. It didn’t work out to our amusement, hopefully the same with this one.

Take care

I'm still not fully convinced. Seems odd to me. Surely the time to invest was with Martin Allen. Yet Martin Allen said he had to reduce the wage bill.

That reduced wage bill would've been a simple consolidation of finances. I doubt they ever thought they'd be battling again in this league. I presume that reduced wage bill was to make things more cost effective.

They're panicking now, and rightly so.

They have invested this season. They wage bill is surely far higher than income. So the owner is footing the bill. That's what chumpy or whatever his name is doesn't seem to get. The owner is all that's keeping that club going right now.

Yes he sold there best players when in L1. But the slide since hasn't all been his fault. Yes he appoints the manager but the managers have let him down.

They want to force him out and it won't happen. Who would want a failing conference side with huge debts on the ground and to the owner. Our club was very cheap in comparison to actually get hold of.

Seems a good appointment in some ways, quite a risk in others. You can't play your way out of that league, the part timers and small clubs will put in more effort stopping you then you can produce quality to make it work. You need a big hard working team with some quality who can bully and steamroller others sides.

We improved massively when the fans were on side and signing for 90 mins each game (after Xmas the promotion year). If they are all booing and protesting it only harms the team as we saw when we went down.

I think it’s a good appointment for them if he gets to bring some players in

At risk of appearing dim, I've seen "dilly dilly" a lot when Spireites are mentioned. It's obviously some Chesterfield saying, but where does it come from and what does it mean?
