Carlisle scorefred sponsored by Hayden's stepovers

Postby Spiritater » Wed Jan 02, 2019 8:18 pm

I reckon it's gonna be tough. Carlisle on a good run of form and scoring freely. But t'Mariners were on a decent run too and we burst their bubble. I'd take a point now though.

Waited for Paulstag to set up his scorethread but the fred was getting restless and Wednesday's nearly over so I've let it out now.

Two of us going. Hoping for a sneaky away win.

Nice 70 mile shufty up the M6 for me and weather forecast is good. Nice wide pitch, should suit us if we are on our game, looking forward to it !

Probably one of the toughest away games of the season bar MK Dons and Exeter and think Stags going to slip up and lose 2 1.

Is John Sheridan leaving for Chesterfield. Hopefully this speculation and the loanees leaving might destabilise them for this game.

It will be a toughy. They are on a right role of results. Think a draw would be good, but a win would be amazing. Difficult place to go.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

If he leaves could Holdsworth be in the dugout against us tomorrow?

10th February 1979 Division 3 (League 1): Carlisle United 1 Mansfield Town 0

A good report on a previous encounter between the two sides with some good photos of Rod Arnold, Kevin Bird, John McLelland, Mick Saxby, Ian Wood, Bob Curtis, Russ Allen etc

The late Neville Hamilton was making his debut for the Stags having signed from Leicester City for £20,000 (worth around £100,000 nowadays).

Good photos for the time.
Three sides can be seen in photos and it looks a bigger crowd than reported.

Will be a tough game - it's a decent trip and alright place tbh.

I said before the run of away games at Grimsby, Carlisle and Colchester it would be a miracle if we stayed unbeaten - 1 down - 3 points.

After 10 in 12 over Xmas and with 2 "winnable" home games coming up, a point would be just fine IMO.

Never seen us win there. Will be happy with a dodgy one nil win, in fact I will be over the moon (sorry for quoting the Saint & Greavsie).

If you’re travelled by car, the Westmoreland Services on the M6 is excellent.

We did win 2-0 playoff season, they went down.

Junior mendes got one, CBA looking for the other

I have seen us win twice there since we have been back in FL

More commonly known as Tebay services, just after junction 38 M6 northbound, it has a farm shop and excellent views. Also very good is Killington, southbound only, just after 37. Again with some excellent views over a lake/reservoir(although it will be dark by then) if you need a pit stop after dashing away from the match. Carlisle centre is very nice, with a castle, cathedral, museum and plenty of shops and cafes.
