Gillingham, Scunthorpe and Coventry Takeovers

Postby Tippy Tappy Football » Thu Dec 01, 2022 10:38 pm

Gillingham
"The Board of Gillingham Football Club have confirmed on several occasions over the past year that they are seeking new investment into the Football Club. This investment could take the form of new ownership, part share sale or medium/long term loans. The Board are currently in discussion with several credible parties, however, as is normal in such circumstances these discussions are confidential and fall under NDA’S (Non-Disclosure Agreements). An article published yesterday on the BBC Sport website, which has now been corrected, contained material inaccuracies which have risked damaging the above process. This matter is now in the hands of the Club lawyers."

Scunthorpe
"We warmly welcome long-standing Scunthorpe United supporters Ian Sharp and Simon Elliott to the Football Club. Both have worked tirelessly to secure the future of the Iron and after many long hours have finally achieved their goal by agreeing a deal with Peter Swann. We wish Peter and Karin Swann well, whatever the future holds. Their financial support over the last 10 years has been vital to sustain Scunthorpe United."

Scunthorpe had not paid their players for November.

Whilst we all moan and groan about NC and not getting promotion, we should not forget this was MTFC only a few years before JR came to our rescue.

Something which i will always be grateful of.

If he hadn't come in I wonder where we'd be now. It's scary to ponder.

I see Mike Ashley has bought Coventry City's Stadium from Wasps who went bust and is now looking to evict them them. Mike Ashley v Sisu (Coventry City's owners) is a match made in hell. They deserve each other.

Sisu have agreed, subject to EFL approval, to sell a 85% stake in Coventry City to local businessman Doug King. The deal involves clearing all of the club’s current debts. Coventry had also been hoping to raise money to buy the stadium but lost out to Ashley.

Agree this could get nasty but also believe it puts Ashley as a preferred bidder for the club. Now he.owns the stadium. Quite aggressive negotiating position. Sell to me or clear off.

It could have been worse for Coventry, Simon Jordan was interested at one point

I suspect this is a ploy to put off the other two bidders and Ashley will take over the club as well as the stadium. I think Ashley would be a better owner than SISU have been!

Dozens of worse owners than Simon Jordan.

Read his book, Rob , educate yourself, it's a great read.

I read Simon Jordan's book and enjoyed it. He was a genuine Palace fan. His biggest mistake like a lot of owners was getting carried away and eventually spending more money than he and Palace had and thus putting them in financial difficuties and into administration due to cashflow problems. Steve Parrish, Stephen Browett, Jeremy Hosking and Martin Long bailed them out.

I'm sure he would have a complete different version than that Darren...
The 2008 market crash ultimately did for him although agreeing to spend 3 million on Ade Akinbiyi didn't help

"Gillingham Football Club, after a long, collaborative due diligence process, can today confirm that Brad Galinson has acquired a majority shareholding in GFC Holdings and Gillingham Football Club Ltd. As a result, Brad Galinson will become the majority shareholder, with Paul Scally retaining a minority shareholding."

Brad Galinson is said to be a billionaire real estate agent who lives in Florida.

We could do with some of that liquidity to help nudge things along a bit.

6 seasons and counting...

Makes no sense why, in an era when American billionaires are circling every club in the top 2 leagues, that an American 'billionaire' would not even fully take over Gillingham - definitely a whiff of the Munto about it. And still have Scally involved too - another one who bought a football club for £1 and ended up bottom of the league. I can see it ending in Conference South tears. Shame, as I always had a soft spot for them ever since they humped the Spireites 100-0

I'll grant you that pal, they need a big January.

Just saying a bit of $ could go a long way for project promotion. Not that money is the be all and end all, but it helps.

I wonder owns Gillingham’s ground and new owner being a property developer should ring some alarm bells.

Priestfield Stadium is owned by Gillingham FC but they created a charge over the ground in favour of Brad Galinson on 29th November 2022 in respect of all monies loaned by him to the football club.

It looks like it is getting messy at York City as well.
