Jug ears is getting crowned on Saturday 6th May.

Will this mean disruption of fixtures on the last day of the season?

King Charles III’s coronation to take place on 6 May 2023

Postby Johnny Rotten » Wed Oct 12, 2022 8:26 am

Owing to the news yesterday that King Charles III’s coronation to take place on 6 May 2023:

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/202 ... dApp_Other

this clashes with the final game of the domestic season - We face an away game at Colchester:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/te ... es/2023-05

I guess it's too early to know what will happen but presumably this round of the domestic fixture list will be moved? Can it be?

Get coronation done early doors for a 1PM finish and then all games kick off at 3PM.

If they can’t be bothered about it being a BH and obviously it’s not a big enough event for it to be a BH, then sport should continue as normal on that day. The coronation is going to be half the length of the previous one anyway. Games should be unaffected imho.

Realistically, I cannot see football being played on this date. The sheer numbers of police officers required to ensure the coronation is carried out safely will completely denude the rest of the nations police forces.

The problem is one of when will the games be played and how will this affect us? To be needing three points for an automatic place and having to travel to Colchester midweek would really kill the party feeling and atmosphere. And for others (not us thankfully) relegated midweek when a full away end or home end may just have given a team that edge to stay up.

For me the solution would be, play the fixtures the following Saturday when police numbers are back to normal, the met can return to watching extinction rebellion sit at traffic junctions and coronation parties are a distant memory. Reschedule the play off fixtures accordingly.

It looks more likely that all games have to be moved to Sunday 7th.

Still won’t be enough officers back in their own force areas to police the matches. They won’t release them from the met until all of the revellers have gone home on the Sunday I wouldn’t have thought.

Sneags title was obviously the correct and best one.
I really don’t believe that anything will be disrupted for this.

Anyone that doesn't think football will be affected by this has clearly not been paying attention

Have I ever mentioned that I really don't have much time for these freeloading Massey Ferguson's?

I've received the following this evening:

Our FSA representative on the Fixtures Committee has sent the following out:

“My reply from the EFL says the following:

Nothing have been decided yet, we are awaiting guidance from the DCMS. Obviously this is our final day of fixtures and we will need to also speak to broadcasters for a view before finalising anything. We are also conscious to ensure as much lead in time as possible going into the Play-off semi finals.

I wonder when there will be an announcement about the final match of the season.

It is 3 months since they announced the date of the coronation.

It would seem logical to move the matches to the Sunday.
