Are there still people out there telling themselves that Evans isn’t a very good manager at this level?

Evans is the best manager in this division and it’s not remotely close. What he’s done at Stevenage on a small budget with a team that looked destined to go down last season is remarkable.

Walsall go above us with the 2-0 win at Donny. Stevenage win 5-0 and Newport score 5 minutes from time to win 2-1 at Crewe having been 1-0 down at half time.

As long as a manager gets us promoted…would we question their morals? Will Newcastle fans question their owners morals if they win the premier league? Evans does what he wants like most of us when it comes to work…we look after number one. I’d have him back if it took us up. Just my opinion, but as a fan starved of success…I want some before I’m gone!!!

No not his morals. I would however, question his commitment to MTFC. He wasn't bothered two hoots about getting us over the line. Despite all the riches the Radfords afforded him, he walked out on us at a crucial time.

Totally agree…I could only have someone back if there were guarantees…but that’s impossible  especially with him!!! Anyway, Clough will get us up this season or next hey!!!

0-2 Hartlepool (Menayese and an OG) big win for them if they hold on

Tom Nichols left out of last two Crawley squads as BH Stag pointed out to me the other day.

I hope they stay up at the expense of Colchester Utd and Gillingham.

Reporter who covers Stevenage and Crawley told me today Nichols has signed for Colchester for £60k. Obviously can't join until January

Genuine question - statistically and record wise how does this bear out.
I thought that they had largely similar win percentages but happily wrong on this.
Clough has had quite a few cup runs and promotions so am I missing something?

When Evans became manager he was claiming something like 9 promotions in his managerial career, Clough has had 2. The football wasn't very good under Evans IMO but he had a knack of getting wins. He looked capable of another promotion with us until he walked out

Evans 42.7 win%
Clough 40.8 win%
So pretty similar

I always find it strange that nobody can ever list these 9 promotions he claims though.
Best I can find is :
Stamford - United Counties Premier 1997/98
Boston - Southern League 1999/2000
Boston - Conference 2001/02
Crawley - Conference 2010/11
Rotherham - League 2 2012/13
Rotherham - League 1 2013/14

So I make it 6 unless anyone can add any others ?

Stamford won the United Counties in 96/97 as well but were not allowed promotion as the ground was below standard so I guess he classes that as a 'promotion'.
Also, Crawley were promoted in 2011/12 after he walked out in April (familiar  ) so I assume his ego is also claiming that one as his.

That takes it up to 8 at best, but on the other side of the coin, the 2 at Boston were both done with 'contract irregularities' so it could be as few as 4 'legal' promotions.

He has 2 league promotions where he was given an enormous wage budget. He is doing a good job at Stevenage, a club I loathed before he even went there, but it won't last. He'll either walk out for a better offer, fall out with the owner or results will start to worsen and he'll get the sack again. He has proven he can only manage when he has a huge financial advantage over his competitors, when he hasn't had that (Leeds, Peterborough, Gillingham) he has failed. I don't get the manlove some on here have for this odious individual.
