Who Has The Best xGA?
Mansfield Town FC has the best xGA (Expected Goals Against) in the EFL League Two with just 0.89 goals expected against them per game. Arguably, this stat could suggest they have the best defence in this competition.
Looks like we don’t need an extra centre half.
Alternatively it shows what utterly meaningless bs these stas are
It depends hoe you want to interpret the stats. If we are only expecting to concede less than a goal a game but concede 1.5 on average from less than 4 shots on target then there is a problem with our team defending/ style of play. You then use other analysis and also experience of the game to work out the problems and therefore a solution.

It depends how it's all interpreted. It suggests we concede 60% more goals than we should.
0.89 is 41 goals conceded over a season which is champions form (on goals against, hence we are top of that particular league) but we are actually conceding 1.5 which is 69 over a season. That's a huge 28-goal gap. It would point to a poor goalkeeper or a makeshift defence or not enough overall quality in the first team defence or we've just had bad luck in these early games.
We are scoring 1.7 goals a game which is 78 goals over a season. This is champions goalscoring.
Looking back through the leagues. Closest I can see of a team getting promoted hith a similar c goals conceded/scored was Bury in 18/19 (incidentally that season we only conceded 41 goals) where they scored 82 and conceded 56.
I still maintain we need stronger depth in defence. Certainly on the left. Cartainly if we are proceeding with a back 3.
This is based on actual goals scored, our xG is 9 over 7 games which averages at 1.2 a game which is an xG of 59 goals over a season.
So from the xG stats we are scoring more than we should and conceding more than we should. But that pretty much seems true for everyone in the league so you have a good case for Dan and others being correct and xG is a load of pap.
It is early days though with only 15% of the season gone.

9 divided by 7 is impossible?

Whoosh. I think he means you can’t concede 1.3 goals in a single game
It’s a Mansfield sense of humour thing Broomo and isn’t meant as a criticism. Stick with us long enough and you’ll get used to it. To avoid the pitfalls you have to be pedantic with statements and in this case add the words ‘an average of’ in your statement of facts.
