Have we a stronger opening day team this season?

I know there have been a few injuries and a ban etc but that starting XI of 2021 looks very good.
These are my opinions , if you don't like them I have others...

And it won.

We can’t really compare teams as the opposition and venue are different. Would have, could have, should have.

Let’s just get behind this team and shout them on to a victory.

I'm not comparing results, venue etc just the players we have/had

Of course, I hope this team goes on to do one better than last seasons I just thought it would be a decent debate on have we "actually " strengthened / improved.

In that case, yes we have. But don’t forget that team didn’t last long before being devastated by injuries. Also we have no idea who will be regular starters yet this year and which players will be favourites for the manager. The only time to really judge is after game 46 presuming we don’t bother the playoffs one way or the other.

I’ll give you a better answer when this transfer window has shut and I have a better idea of where we are.

I think last years opening day starting 11 was better than this years.

10 out of 11 players last year were playing in their best position, only Oates was out of position and it was a surprise at that stage that he started ahead of Lapslie in that role.

This year we had 2 forwards playing wing back, and a left back at CB. We also had 2 kids with practically no experience of playing mens football in the 11. That’s half of your outfield that you are asking a lot of! It was really no surprise that we didn’t get the result we desired when you take all that in to consideration. I don’t think it can be considered to be better than last years opening day starting 11.

If we didn’t have any injuries and Clough picked players in their best positions though I think we’d field a side better than last years opening day.

Salford away last season was:

Bishop
Perch Hawkins O'Toole McLaughlin
Maris Lapslie Longstaff
Akins Oates Murphy

Granted it was the penultimate fixture of the season but ended 2-2.

5 out of that 11 started on Sat. https://stagsnet.net/match/reports/view ... tchid=1158

I did initially look at the Home game in error. I mention it because we went with a back 3 for that one and changed it after 30 minutes. https://stagsnet.net/match/reports/view ... tchid=1132 that's the report for that game if anyone is interested.

We have already "dropped" points from last season. we took 4 points off Salford and now the maximum we can take is 3.
