And a large part of the time is thought to have been spent negotiating to get Danny Johnson back to the club on a permanent basis. Johnson scored 15 goals in his time on loan and Flynn has made no secret of his pursuit of a permanent deal. So far that effort has proved futile, with Flynn calling the fee Mansfield are demanding for Johnson – an unused substitute in their win over Doncaster on Saturday – ‘extortionate

Flynn said: “It’s down to one man, the Mansfield chairman.

“We thought we had an agreement but that seems to have changed and now he has put an extortionate price on his head which I can tell you now, nobody will pay.”

I'm pretty sure that's not allowed in this day and age. He'll be part of the first team squad. And hopefully get us some important goals between now and the end of the season.

Really surprised he is still here!

Hope he gets his head down now and gives it his all rather than sulking. Don’t expect he will start many from the off but he could play a big role off the bench if we are needing goals

There’s always the possibility he goes to the National League on loan (if he doesn’t want to be part of the Stags)

I think Walsall have upgraded on Johnson with Matty Stevens to be honest

Liked a tweet about thinking he was going back also. Sod him, glad we've not sold him if they won't offer as much as what was already on the table from other clubs

Not sure how fit Stevens is, he had that nasty injury while ruled him out for a while.

It's still a gamble because it's not guaranteed he will do as well as Johnson.

I think it's a good signing but feel like they would've preferred Johnson as he was consistently scoring for them

In my dreams this all ends with DJ going on loan to a conference side and knocks Chesterfield out of the play offs, and JR goes down in all time history

Or the nightmare scenario. Goes to Cheaterfield and helps them to promotion.

I'm not sure his Walsall tweet has done him any favours. Would have been nice (and professional) to see him say something to the Mansfield fans (the ones who pau his wages) along the lines of "Now it's settled and I'm staying, time to knuckle down and help the club and my team mates achieve promotion, hoping for a really strong end to the season & I'll give it everything I've got to contribute to that dream"

Think he's given up on us in his head already, which is disappointing as he'll be costing us a bloody fortune in wages.

I agree. I can't see him putting a shift in for us. Seems his heart is in Walsall.

If he’s going to be moping about sucking the life out of things because he’s on the bench then it’s not worth him being involved. One for Clough to figure out quickly

He's going to be dragging 3k a week for doing nothing. Not exactly going to be ringing the samaritons.

There's nothing to figure out. He won't play for us again and he won't be in the match day squad.
These things happen in football in every league every season.

He is the one with the issue now. He’s a professional football player and is paying more than most of us. He needs to do his job. He needs to pick his bottom lip up and get a grip.

Seems the jury on here has already made the decision on him. Hardly his fault he didn't get on the pitch v Donny.
He's with us now and all previous indications from the manager last week are that he's happy to be here.
The fact he didn't give Old Cedric a wave in the crowd on Saturday seems to have sealed it.
Give him a chance, you never know he might just be the difference with a goal or two before May.

If he gets a chance (I hope he does) he’d be sensible to knuckle down, play well and score some goals as that will maximise his earning potential when he signs a new deal in the summer.
He should also just get on with the job as he’s being paid for it. We’ve all had to work out a notice period.
