"Stockport County have signed former Manchester City academy midfielder Jacob Davenport (24) on a contract until the end of the season. Davenport had been training with Stockport since leaving Lincoln City. He also had two injury-disrupted seasons at Blackburn."

"Swindon have signed ex-Chelsea academy midfielder George McEachran (22) on a free transfer until the end of the season. He has been a free agent since being released by the Chelsea last summer."

Free agent Connor Wickham joined Cardiff City and Leon Clarke signed for Hartlepool.

Davenport is a very decent little player, likes to pick it up off the centre half or goalkeeper and has a brilliant range of crisp passing. Was on loan at Burton when very young.

Thought he would do very well in the Championship and if fit is a cracking signing at this level.

Maybe they offered him a better deal than we were prepared to pay. Can’t blame him for going where the money is and wouldn’t be surprised if Laps and Hawks recommend him.

This is what Clough said at the fans forum: "Lewis Page is not training with us any more. He trained with us up til January, he's training with another club at the moment. He couldn't quite get fit. He was getting fit and then we couldn't commit to anything so he's off with another club at the moment."

Think Yorkies point is Bobby that if Clough didn’t fancy taking a punt on him then he should have got an adequate replacement/ cover in ..

In fairness this was said at the forum (from Martin's transcribed notes):

Q about left back:
Nigel: We had Lewis Page ear-marked as back-up. He got injured in the Notts Senior Cup game.
David: We came close to signing a left back in January. But that club we were getting him from couldn't find a left back to replace him. We thought it was going to get done.

So it seems we tried but couldn't get it done.

As for Lewis Page signing for Gillingham any number of things could have happened. Either the board didn't want to sanction the move at all due to paying for a month and getting 45 mins from him and didn't want to offer 6 months or so and was too high a risk. Or Gillingham offered more?

At the end of the day, we've needed a LWB since the start of the season. We signed Page and took a risk that backfired. Tried to address in January, identified a target that required an upward chain and the chain broke. We now go into the run-in to the end of the season with no cover. Unless another free agent left back is available.

I'm not trying to dress it up as anything. I've been very vocal about my opinions regarding LWB and the defence all season (and last to be fair), ask anyone.

However we've literally missed the window now. The best out of contract left back, Page, is now at Gillingham and manager 45 mins and a cup game (no idea how long he lasted). We didn't want to take a chance, Gillingham can afford to take the risk.

Don't take my acceptance of the situation as being happy with it. I refuse to believe that a club like ours, last seasons play off finalists with Nigel Clough in charge, can't attract a single left wing back. Last season and this season we've had Macca, Jaiden(sp?) Charles and Ryan Burke as options. 2 of those 3 were only options last season and were out in loan as well)

It may be poor but at the end of the day it's the hand we've been dealt.
. So then Mr Sugar, you've fired the lot of them. Now what are you going to do to rectify what happened? Where is this magic left back that has the worst agent in the world that's unable to get his league 2 standard left back a single club all season?

We get through this season, Macca returns at some point and hope it's soon enough and injury free then we don't have to worry about forwards filling in for him.

So you’re saying that we once again failed to get the player in that we needed ? Whose fault is that ?

Yes we did fail to get a player in.

As for "fault", based on what the club are saying happened, then it's the failure of the selling club not finding the right player. We must have agreed terms and the player would have been willing to join. So their recruitment team will be to blame... As for a plan B, who knows who is available and inside our budget.

We failed to address LWB, not through lack of trying. We even signed one outside the transfer window but that didn't work out.
