Think he had a little less hair when he played for us, or was it just longer? Sad news.

Much less, I remember when we signed him, he was warming up in front of us in the North Stand, I thought he was a new coach. We never saw the best of him but he had a great career, especially at Carlisle.

Joe was well past his best when he signed for the Stags for Stuart Boam in 1981. He may have been a friend of his. It was a very dark time for the Stags after winning the 4th Division Championship in 1975 and the 3rd Division Championship in 1977. He was a much better player when First Division Carlisle United knocked the Stags out of the FA Cup in the 5th Rd in 1975.

I never knew Graeme Souness was his best man.

From Carlisle United Facebook page:
"I knew Joe very well when he was at Carlisle. When he got married to Sue, Graeme Souness was his best man."

Rest in peace Joe.

A tribute from John Gorman, another former Carlisle player.

Rip Joe

Having watched every game he played for us, it was obviously the end of his professional career but he was certainly a character with a rich and successful football history.
