Rainworth Away, academy side, Notts Senior Cup, 24 Nov

Postby groundhoppingstag » Wed Oct 27, 2021 5:27 pm

With most Stag's fans focus obviously on the poor league performances and the FA Cup at Sunderland, it has come to my attention that we have been drawn away at Rainworth in the Notts Senior Cup.
Anyone know the date or what level of team we have entered?

An academy side, not sure if U18 or U23. Date not yet known.

Steve Hymas posted on facebook about this game last week

"We have also entered the Notts senior cup and been drawn away at Rainworth welfare.Interestingly Notts county and forest have entered U23 sides this year .
More experience for our young players"

I've heard Notts County have been drawn away at Hucknall, not seen the draw anywhere though.

Depending on where the big three play thier home games if they progress and are drawn at home next round there's five grounds I've not been to on the list of clubs entered.

Selston
Gedling
Kimberley
Sherwood
Newark.

Some proper ties on that list, some very good senior sides in Notts now. County beat Hucknall on penalties last night.

Another chance for some of our youngsters to show their quality. It will be interesting to see how they fair.

To me, sending a development or Under 23 squad to the Notts Senior Cup smacks of the Premier sides in the Papa Johns trophy. In essence people will be asked to pay for a more competitive friendly.

I am all for entering the Notts Cup, but treat that trophy and those volunteers that run the likes of Teversal etc with the respect it deserves and send the first team. It is a great competition, with a great tradition and the pinnacle of local non-professional football, so why do we have to go all ‘big time’ in attitude with it?

Imagine sending the first team and getting a couple of injuries!

I don’t think it’s disrespectful to the smaller clubs at all. It’ll still generate some extra revenue for them

Do you want the first team to get home early morning and play again sane day. Seriously.

Believe it or not the Notts Cup as it is a sanctioned FA competition takes priority over league games. Theoretically we could be made to play it on a Saturday. However, by paying a small fine clubs are allowed to play mid-week to avoid fixture congestion.

Beside, Kernow, all the clubs have to do is agree a date between them doesn’t clash with any other fixture. Been happening for 100 or so years at every level. So no need to travel back and play again the same day.

Didn't the Notts Senior Cup used to be between the County's league sides which at the moment are just us and Forest. Giving the Senior non league sides such as County Teversal Clippo a chance to win a prestigious local trophy is a great idea. Sending our young guns gives them a chance to experience the rough and tumble of non league

If memory serves it was the County Cup that the three senior teams competed for. I’m not sure if that morphed into the current competition but that sounds likely.

Forest, County (previously) and ourselves competed for the County Cup. The Notts Senior Cup was for the non-league teams in the county, Sutton Town, Arnold etc. Both were quite prestigious in their day.

Basically the local variant of the football league trophy? A competition for lower league sides that is diluted by the big teams being allowed to play their kids in it?

I think any club has a right to select players for this competition that they decide is suitable
