If we'd have signed Johnson in Jan for 200k, would he have been a better quality player than he is now when we signed him for free?

To be fair, a good barometer of quality is wage demands. Thats why often teams with biggest player wage budgets (not necessarily transfer budgets) finish higher.
However, players who can demand bigger wages also require bigger transfer fees. It's not totally unrelated.

That is true, which is why I was talking about transfer fees

Look in League 2 a club gets £750,000, In League 1 £1-5 million, Championship £6 million, Premier league £130 million plus E,S,T
So budgets between divisions are very different And Hoolahan in league 2 stands out like Quinn and they are quality and good at league 2 level.
To get out of this league we need someone who can make a difference,
Clough will get a good team but will be looking for that spark.
Clough says he has a good budget for league 2, and will not waste it, Clough knows quality just been watching Che Addams Southhamton and Scotland.
Clough bought him from Ilkeston town for £150.000, i saw him score 2 against Spurs on his debut
But clubs do get more money the higher the league they play in, and money matters

And thats why league two teams should always have sell on clauses and the like whenever they sell to a higher level like I'm sure we have with CJ

But not all clubs rely solely on the money they get from the league. Some have bigger gates, others have better sponsors so you can’t just look on money from the league and say that’s where you are in the wages pyramid.

Regarding Speight, it’s the typical action of a certain type of agent. He would’ve been saying to Wigan this is your last chance to give us what we want because the player is at another club having a medical. So that will force a clubs hand. If you really want a player of that quality then you’ll pay whatever it takes. Looking at Wigan’s squad he will be one of the best players there so they were always going to pay it. What’s interesting though is the problems they’ve had recently regarding paying players etc. Let’s hope Tom has made the right decision for his sake.

That's what an agent is paid to do, get the best deal for his player. The player then has to make up his mind whether to sign or not. Naylor has made his choice. He's a Wigan player now and as such it won't be of any concern to me whether it works out for him.

Naylor has made his decision, must be a dream to play for Wigan, me im still looking where we are, i say we have signed 5 players, with 2 goalkeepers to come.
Im now thinking a forward, winger, giving us Bowery, Sinclair, Reid, Gordon, Charsley, Johnson,---A-n other, Thats 7 battling for a front 3.
Midfield is good enough, Clarke, Quinn, Law, Maris, Lapslie , Charsley Perch, Ward,, Mclaughlin, Gordon, Thats 10 battling for 3 midfield
Defence Gordon, Perch, Clarke, Rawson, Hewitt ,Mclaughlin, Charles, perhaps 1 more central defender depending what happens to Menayese.
im thinking only 1 or 2 coming not including goal keepers Thats 8 battling for 4 places.
could this be our squad

Tom Naylor clearly made the right decision for him as a player but it does not excuse Jake the Snake's behaviour. The club should refuse to deal with him in the future. Just rely on agents that David Sharpe bumps into in the Bahamas.

Good luck to him. He made the right decision for him. Although it did mess up Nigel's plans.

Money talks and it worked out well for Naylor , Champions of league 1 and Championship football beckons.
His transfer still leaves a sour taste and shows the dark side of the game, but no one can deny he made the right call, short term perhaps.
Mansfield Still in the mix and certainly the future is bright good luck tomorrow for the players who chose to share this journey with us.
Thank you for giving us a great season, and a base in moving forward

Can’t blame Naylor too much, he got a better deal and is now a championship player. Jake the snake has to be blamed for messing us around.

Imagine where we’d be if he had signed? Potentially the same effect as having JJOT all season? Who knows, just hope we can do our bit this week.
