There are 30 academy players under contract at Watford just from reading their press release. Clubs should not be allowed to stockpile players in this way.

There’s two ways of looking at it I suppose.

One view is that other clubs are not getting to opportunity to get the best junior players into their own academies.

The opposite view is that the players going to Watford’s academy are probably getting a better coaching experience than those at Wycombe (for example) and as a result they become better players.

Either way it reduces the likelihood of us developing players identified from junior football to become established pro’s.

Another reason why I advocate trying to pick up 16-21 year old players released from the top academies as a better strategy than trying to produce our own.

We should be doing both of these things imo!

I’d love nothing more than a few Mansfield born and bred to get into the first team.

I just think that the club can’t maximise the potential of both avenues with the resources we have.

The competition for the juniors from teams like Forest, Derby, Sheff W, Sheff U, Leicester and such like makes it extremely tough to bring the juniors through, but we can definitely pick up the best of their unwanted players though and profit from them.

A few good examples include, Nicky Weaver, Liam Lawrence and CJ Hamilton.

I think Brentford have a similar type of model

Tbh i really dont worry where our players come from ,young local lads brilliant ,if not another route ,but im sure jr and steve hymas ,would love nothing more than a few home grown young uns ,they deserve it more than most for their efforts ,and commitments

Seriously, can you imagine our pace at centre half with Parkes and Rawson? Massive no no.

Cos Baptiste and Santos were lightning along with Boyle and Tozer...

He was suffering with his mental health, might be a good move for him. You don't always have to be going towards the premiership to make progress. Might be close to family now too, hope he does well

Hope it gets him on the right track, it's a great signing for Spalding though!

Spalding are managed by Gabriel Zakuani, his ex Posh teammate and that seems to have been a big factor as they are close friends.

Yes that thought also crossed my mind, not that we normally have to wait long for a meltdown anyway

Well Naylor wouldn't have to worry about him shouting abuse at Field Mill, just the occasional away game in the south east.

Meeeow.

I’d never boo one of our own players, not matter what the past was.

I would say that if he did come back, he’d need to put the DCFC raspberries to bed. He had a big falling out with Steve H too. Called him a liar. That would need to be squared away too.

Anyone think the Quinn deal might be off? He was in talks like 3 weeks before the season ended?

I think the big one for Quinn is when does he retire and how many knocks can he take, he was out for over a year with a serious knee injury and underwent multiple operations on it,
Retirement was a consideration in 2018, After leaving Reading he contacted Clough to see if he could train with Burton Albion to build his fitness up, and Clough took a great risk in signing him, After a short term contract, he gave Quinn a extended 18 month contract until 2021, So i would think any decision by Quinn will be about his fitness.
Having played 2 years since leaving reading has been some achievement, He knows his own body, i feel he is taking his time can he do anther year

The club know his injury situation, could be his contract offer is written accordingly and Quinn has a decision to make?

Just because it hasn't been announced doesn't mean it isn't sorted.

I'm putting two and two together (I may be getting 5!) from bits I've heard over the past couple of days and I think we may have signed Elliott Hewitt from Grimsby today.
