Re: Players Released, Transfers & Loans 2021-2022

Rhys Bennett has turned down a new contract at Carlisle because he was offered quite a bit less less money. His contract at Carlisle also finished on 10th May and not 30th June as normal. Players then usually receive another month's salary as severance pay. I'm surprised Carlisle have got away with this as the PFA are usually quite tough on these things and they are normally covered in the standard EFL contract.

"Rhys Bennett says he has he received a “quite disrespectful” contract offer from the Blues. The centre-half told fans on his live stream that there was “no way” he could accept the deal tabled by the club last week. Bennett said United had offered him reduced terms. And while the 29-year-old has not ruled out staying at Brunton Park, he said he could not accept the deal they have put to him – and also claimed he has interest from clubs in higher divisions.

Bennett said: “The contract that they have offered is not very good. I don’t want to come across as ungrateful but the contract that they’ve offered is quite a bit less than I’m on. If anyone asks me why I’m not signing the contract…I physically can’t sign that, especially when I have options in higher leagues. From a professional standpoint, the contract offer’s quite disrespectful. That’s how I feel. But I do understand that Carlisle don’t have a lot of money, and that’s fine. That’s all I’m gonna say.”

The former Peterborough and Mansfield defender, on his stream, added that there was no room for manoeuvre based on the initial offer he had received. He said: “I’m being completely and utterly honest. I’m not even gonna say we’re in negotiations because there’s no negotiation with that. Even if I wanted to stay, there’s no way I could stay with that offer. I don’t want it to be, ‘Why is he turning down the contract?’ The contract’s less than I’m on now, and quite a bit less.”

Bennett also added that his existing deal with the club ran out last week. “Basically, since people are asking, a normal football contract goes from July 1 to 30 June. But in Carlisle…my contract finished on May 10. Normally you get six weeks’ more pay and then if you haven’t found a club, you get severance, so another month’s wage. But at Carlisle you don’t get none of that. If we’d made play-offs I would have had to sign another contract for the play-offs.”

The defender stressed that he had loved his time at Brunton Park since he joined last autumn, and insisted he did not yet know what he was going to do regarding his future. He made 26 appearances and scored five goals for Chris Beech’s side. "I really enjoyed it. It’s a real, real good group of lads,” he said. He also spoke highly of Beech, adding that he had played through an injury during one game to help the head coach, at a time the Blues boss was coming in for criticism amid United's difficult spell in the second half of the season.

Bennett is one of six players to be offered new deals by the Blues after the end of the 2020/21 campaign. The others are Paul Farman, Omari Patrick, Offrande Zanzala, Nick Anderton and Morgan Feeney."

An experienced centre half who is still young at 29.

He will have plenty of offers.

Stevenage
Under Contract: Scott Cuthbert, Marcus Dinanga, Elliott List, Ross Marshall, Luke Norris, Elliot Osborne, Luke Prosser, Jack Smith, Terence Vancooten
In Negotiations: Tom Pett, Chris Lines, Luther James-Wildin, Ben Coker, Charlie Carter,
Retired: Romain Vincelot

Released:Femi Akinwande, Jacob Bancroft, Inih Effiong, Jamie Fielding, Arthur Iontton, Billy Johnson, Joe Martin, Danny Newton, Liam Smyth

Good to see old warriors like Scott Cuthbert (33) and Luke Prosser (32) still going strong.

I'm surprised Barnsley have retained Jack Aitchison. He needs to be moving on and playing permanently for a club in League 1 or League 2.

As a side note to this, Gary Dicker has recently followed David Sharpe on instagram, but wouldn't make much sense as he's a midfielder.

Rotherham United
Released: Billy Jones, Shaun MacDonald, Jamie Proctor, Clark Robertson, Kyle Vassell.
In Negotiations:Matt Olosunde, Josh Vickers.

Kyle Vassell and Clark Robertson have both been promoted from League 2 with Blackpool.

Kyle Vassell 141(58) league appearances and 36 goals. Not a great strike rate. 56(7) apps and 22 goals for Blackpool from 2016-2018 (11 goals per season) is his best return.

Clark Robertson made 118(3) apps for Blackpool from 2015-2018.

You just knew Richie Wellens would end up back at Donny Rovers as manager. He now needs to persuade James Coppinger to play for another season so he can have a proper send off.

Southend United
Under Contract: John White, Nathan Ferguson, Harry Phillips, Lewis Gard, Miles Mitchell-Nelson, Eren Kinali, Simeon Akinola, Ashley Nathaniel-George
Options Exercised: Jon Benton, Tom Clifford, Terrell Egbri, Rob Howard, Matt Rush, Harry Seaden, O’Shane Stewart
Offered new contracts: Elvis Bwomono, Jason Demetriou, Tim Dieng, Sam Hart, Shaun Hobson, Ricky Holmes, Mark Oxley,

Jacob Mellis is released by Southend United along with young big unit Emile Acquah who must have a good 15 seasons to get back in the EFL before I have to pay Martin a fiver.

Elvis Bwomono will receive offers. Steve Evans is said to be interested (as always!)

Do you think this tweeter reads Stagsnet.

Chris Wise has been in the local media covering Portsmouth for years. So this is a reputable source in my opinion.

I assume if we did sign him it would be as a centre back rather than a midfielder where I think he has played most.

Yes that thought also crossed my mind, not that we normally have to wait long for a meltdown anyway

Naylor has said himself he wants to play in the championship, I'd be very surprised if he came here but delighted.

That would be a superb signing.

With the strength of our midfield then I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at CB
