If you could sign any League Two player who would it be?

Postby Dan » Mon May 03, 2021 12:03 am

Mine would be Aaron Collins. I followed his career since I got to know him at Notts County and he finds the net everywhere he goes. I reckon he’d get between 15-20 goals a season for us with our midfield supplying him.

What about you?

I think we should be looking for better than League two.

However, to answer your question Scott Quigley ( Barrow ), has pace and scores with either foot. He's scored goals in a side that has struggled this season.

To me it’s clear we’ve missed that right type of striker, given the season he’s had would have to say Mullin at Cambridge but Doyle and Henderson would be up there. Know that they would produce goals in our system.

Good topic Dan.

I’d like Collins too. Every time I have seen him he looks dangerous.

No question that Doyle, Mullin and May have fired those 3 teams to (almost) automatic promotion. We wont be signing any of them. Other top scorers are Henderson (Salford) and Vaughan (Tranmere) and they wont be coming either.
So, do we look at free scoring strikers from below. Tried that with Reid. Or strikers from above not getting full game time?

Good question. Given no restrictions are put on if we could realistically get them or not, Collins, May and Mullin are good shouts. A few nobody has mentioned :

Hladky
Happe
Mendes Gomes
List

I think List is probably the most attainable out of those four so I’d go for him. A pacy winger/striker who has been key to Stevenage resurgence.

He's probably behind a few of the names already mentioned for me but I'd like to see us sign Chris Hussey as Bennings replacement.

Elliot List signed a new contract last week.

I’d go for Hunter at Salford.

Wasn’t aware of that that.

Mendes Gomes then of Morecambe don’t go up. Think he will probably go higher though.

Scott Quigley is big and strong and is a good League 2 target man like Jamille Matt, Ryan Bowman and Cole Stockton. You would not say he had pace though.

No matter who we think we should do get Nigel Clough knows the 8 he wants, and he’s the one who counts.

James McKeown has dropped as many clangers this season as Marek Stech and Aidan Stone.

If you were signing one player to get us promoted next season based on this season's form then it would have to be Paul Mullin who has had the season of his life. One game that summed his season up for me was Cambridge's home game against Walsall in early March. It was heading for a 0-0 draw and in the last minute of extra time. Hayden White miscontrolled the ball and let the ball run out for a throw in just inside Walsall's half. The ball is thrown in to Was Hoolahan who lays it off to Boateng who passes to Paul Mullin around 25 yards out and he smashes it in the top corner. 3 points for Cambridge from absolutely nothing.

The xG score was Cambridge 0.4 Walsall 0.9
