Worth noting that Paul Mullin’s record before he signed for Cambridge wasn’t great. Just shows that you don’t have to sign a “smash the league” signing to get a 25 goal a season striker.

Same when we signed Matt Green, don't think anyone expected to score the amount he did

Mullin has had an excellent season, but his goal ratio in previous years has been average. If we signed him at the beginning of this season there would have been plenty of moaning.

He has taken more shots than anyone in the division and his performing much higher than his XG.

He’s 26 now so it’ll be interesting to see if he can continue his form for for a few years or if this season is an anomaly.

My guess is that it’s an anomaly.

Very true Dan.

This season he has scored 30 goals in 45 games.

In the previous 6 seasons at League Two level he’d scored 37 goals in 190 games.

Goals per minute before this season : 1 every 246 minutes

Goals per minute this season : 1 every 128 minutes.

Now overall : 1 every 193 minutes.

Prior to this season, Jordan Bowery’s record in League Two was 32 goals in 185 games, but with a much worse goals per min record.

I think had we signed Mullin in the summer there’s have been a similar reaction to when Bowery signed.

If we could sign 8 players from League 2 this season to strengthen our weak areas then I would go for the following. Callum Guy would be support/back up for George Maris and Dappy would be my luxury player (or Adam Phillips from Burnley). Might still need a left back (Declan John or James Brophy):

Goalkeeper
Vaclav Hladky (Salford City)

Defenders
Anthony O'Connor (Bradford City)
Paudie O'Connor (Bradford City)
Ricardo Santos (Bolton Wanderers)

Midfield
Callum Guy (Carlisle United)

Attacking Midfield
Dappy Afolayan (West Ham United) or Adam Phillips (Burnley)

Forwards
Paul Mullin (Cambridge United)
Matt Jay (Exeter City)

We should have signed him a couple of seasons ago. He would be a big improvement on what we have at the moment.

I always thought at some point we'd sign either McKeown or Farman (ex Lincoln) but obviously neither happened. I would've thought McKeown would have kicked on by now but hasn't. I

I'd sooner sign Paul Farman than James McKeown but Nigel Clough's style of play may not suit him as he likes to launch it down the pitch Conrad style.

I thought we were being asked to choose one.

If we're choosing eight, then I'll have:

Vaclav Hladky,
Ben Tozer and Will Boyle (Tozer to take the long throws, Boyle to bundle them in), Chris Hussey, Ricardo Santos
Paul Mullin, Jamille Matt, Joe Ironside

Callum Guy definitely

And Nicky cadden I think it is?

Rory Holden and Alfie bates at Walsall also very bright young players. I think it was Jack Aitchison who also looked like another promising player.. I'd love to sign a couple of one's for the future along with some solid experience.

Would have liked to have taken Zack Jules off them but I think he went to league one in January

Two target men for Martin - Matt and Ironside

I left out target men because NC doesn't strike me as the type of manager who likes to play a target man or have a Plan B to bring off the bench. He did mention Joe Ironside in an interview though.

my friend who's the Cambridge commentator reckons Mullin would have been far less effective this season without Ironside.

Hladky? He made a mistake this season so he'd be no good here.

First few minutes of our game passed the ball straight to Sinclair for an early effort on goal. A more experienced striker would have buried it.

Hladky is certainly the best keeper in League Two in my opinion. In fact I've no idea why he's playing in league Two.

I decided to have a good look at him warming up the other day before our game, as he was in the corner of the pitch very close to where we were. He was absolutely brilliant, catching everything, saving everything.

I think 2 or 3 of our new players will come from Scottish football.
But if I could sign one League 2 player it would be Ryan Bowman from Exeter
