Andy Cook

I know Andy is out of contract this summer but is it true that Stags have the option to extend his one-year contract?

Was there something about games played to trigger the clause.
Not sure if it works both ways.

We have an option, which means we can trigger it if we like, with no agreement required from the player (as I understand it). I’m sure given the wages he’s on, we would only do that if we were confident we could secure a fee or if we wanted to keep him.

For whatever reason, Andy Cook has never fitted in at Mansfield, he seems to be happy at Bradford. You sometimes have to cut your losses and move on, that time has come for Cook.

and if we extend his contract and a club don't want to pay for him then we are left with an unhappy striker who will be on a lot of money, which could be spent elsewhere.

I dont know if we will get better because he is a good striker ,who it just didn,t work out for at stags nobodies fault really just one of those things that happen in football ,but i trust cloughie to bring in players who will contribute more to the club

He’ll go. We will come to an agreement with The Bantams.

Cook is at the wrong end of his career to try and get a fee for him using the contract extension clause. Let him go if he's not worth what he's on.

Perhaps Bradford City will give us the £45,000 rumoured to be the amount they are getting for Rowe. ;)

I think we'll just let him go too, but when you consider someone has just paid a fee for Danny Rowe, you have to question if it would be good business.

The risk is there are no takers and he just sits on a lucrative contract

Yes exactly, I mentioned that in my earlier post, but I’m assuming the club would be clever enough to find out if there was interest before doing that.

Surely we would just loan him out again to Bradford and they pay his wages.

We would then get the advantage of him not playing against us.

Cookie got some serious dogs abuse from a very vocal tiny minority in his time with us, i know players are supposed to be professional and get on with it but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it was enough for him to not quite give his all at times. As Rowe has left Bradford it wouldn't surprise me if he was there next season

That was the story when he left Walsall too.

Coincidence?

His goal scoring rate at Bradford has been pretty good, I know a couple of season ticket holders up there and pretty much get a weekly “thanks for giving us cook” text. I’m sure there’s already an agreement in place.

It's got to be a done deal or they are very bad at poker.
It's usually, we will sit down and talk, let's see what happens.
I was surprised a few weeks ago when asked about Keeping Cook and he said it's a no brainier.
Good luck to him, I really liked him.
