Kevin Hitchcock and Andy Beasley (we also had young Jason Pearcey ) that season.

Martin New and Andy Beasley were nowhere near as good as Conrad Logan or Bobby Olejnik. They made very few league appearances.

Conrad Logan was a very good League 2 keeper in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019; as was Bobby Olejnik.

In your opinion Darren. In others he was poor to average.

None of the recent goalkeepers since we returned to the league are anywhere near Marriotts standard IMO.

Conrad was nowhere near poor to average in those seasons Sam. He played 62 league games for the Stags in those two fairly successful seasons. He was voted the Chad's Player of the Season in one of them!

Neither of those things have any bearing on my opinion. He played a lot of games because the alternatives were injured or worse than poor/average.

Whether he won any awards or not does not alter my opinion. In my view he was one reason why those two seasons you mentioned were not more successful.

Imagine if he didn't flap that Colchester long throw in the last minute, we'd probably be in league one right now

Ok, these are Martin's average goalkeeper scorers for the last seven seasons for league and cup games. Numbers in brackets is number of games played. There are 12 names since King Alan hung up his boots and took hold of his voltmeter.

7.03 Brian Jensen (31)
7.00 Adam Smith (loan) (4)
6.75 Conrad Logan (95)
6.75 Jordan Smith (loan) (12)
6.73 Dimiter Evtimov (loan) (11)
6.64 Bobby Olejnik (41)
6.61 Aiden Stone (24)
6.57 Jake Kean (loan) (21)
6.53 Scott Shearer (52)
6.48 Sascha Studer (22)
6.43 Marek Stech (28)
6.40 Lenny Pidgeley (loan) (15)

What was Bobby’s pre injury Pete?

He’s been the best IMO before the injury, but it’s a shambles of a list.

6.81 Bobby Olejnik (27)

So slightly better than Conrad but for only a third of the games.

Andy Beasley played 112 first team games for the Stags. Martin New played 25, only because Rod Arnold was practically cemented into the side playing over 500 first team games. Both Beasley and New were good keepers in their own right. I would take Arnold and New or Hitchcock and Beasley any day of the week over Bobby and Logan.

spoke to Mazza in Lincoln the following year, the deal had been agreed for another year, Cox told Mazza he would phone him in month to sign it, he didn’t even bother to phone him.

In that month, the budget was halved and Coxy had to have a rethink.

Not that old chestnut Bobby  Let's blame a keeper for making a mistake in a game in AUGUST! and forget about all the chances that the strikers and midfield players missed throughout the season and also conveniently forget about:

Danny Rose missing a great chance to make it 2-0 against Col U
Conceding a second half equaliser at Macclesfield when Ryan Sweeney and Lewis Gibbens failed to mark Harry Smith
Conceding an 88th minute equaliser at Cambridge United
Not scoring at home against Oldham when we absolutely hammered them
Not chopping down Danny Mayor as he dribbled past five Stags players to set up a 95th minute equaliser for Nicky Maynard for Bury
Will Atkinson getting sent off at Swindon
Not beating MK Dons at home
Not beating Swindon at home
Neal Bishop getting sent off in the tunnel at half time at Carlisle United
Getting beat by Yeovil at home after hammering them
The terrible performance at Notts County
Tyler Walker stupidly getting sent off for dissent at home against Forest Green Rovers and missing the Port Vale away game
Nicky Ajose missing the penalty at Port Vale to give the Stags the lead which would have been taken by Tyler Walker if he had not been suspended for the sending off
Losing at home to Crewe
Not taking our chances away at Crawley
A poor performance at Northampton and Danny Rose missing a good chance
Gethin Jones making three defensive errors away at Oldham
Jorge Grant going missing in action in crucial games
Neal Bishop's form tailing off at the end of the season
Losing at home to Stevenage after Conrad had set up Tyler Walker for the equaliser ;)
Neal Bishop leaving David Wheeler unmarked at a corner to score the winner at Franchise FC
Not being able to score an equaliser at Franchise FC

etc, etc,

It's a bloody good chestnut and because it was August it gets overlooked!!!!

All those examples you've put happen regularly all over the country as do goalkeeping mistakes.
However a 6'4", 22 stone GK that can use his hands shouldn't have been flopping around flapping at a loopy long throw.
That's always been the real horrendous mistake that cost us in my opinion too
