Good luck to him i say.... Hopefully he's learnt from his mistakes at stags and stockport & can work his way back into league management.

Will never be popular round these parts thou due to his ties with Haslam

Wasn't Carlton Palmer found guilty of sexual assault?

He was also probably an alcoholic whilst manager of the Stags. The same applied to Keith Curle......and probably Hasloan as well.

A man who took a shot of brandy before he played to calm his nerves and who claimed that he played worse when he stopped drinking!

He's been joined at Grantham Town by AFC Mansfield manager, Matt Chatfield.

I remember him playing in midfield for us on the opening game of 2005-06 away at Stockport as player manager?. He was magnificent during the first half that day, he ran the show as we raced into a 2-0 lead. It's hard to think of a better midfield display since that day. Did he get injured and not play much after this?

I always said he should have continued playing in his side. They were much better with him in it and fans would not have been so critical had results been better. Yes he was stained by his association with the chairman but most fans would not be bothered if the results were going our way.

Never forget that day at rochdale when the fans pretty much sang “we want palmer put” or other alternatives for the entire 90 minutes.

Think we lost 2-0 and resigned straight after the game, the scenes when fans realised were brilliant, cracking day

Great day, remember it well, especially when we heard on the way home that Palmer had quit.

Arguably the most arrogant and useless manager in Mansfield's history... however he did sign Richie Barker one of the best hard working players in stags history..... god help Grantham !!

A very strange appointment for Grantham Town as Carlton has no knowledge or experience of non-league football.

That's why he has recruited Matt Chatfield (AFC Mansfield) and Jas Colliver (former Handsworth, Staveley, Clipstone and Sheffield FC manager) as his coaches.

Grantham chairman Darren Ashton said he is delighted to appoint such a recognisable name, and is looking forward to the future. The chairman also claimed that Carlton Palmer has turned down professional jobs in the Football League to join the semi-pro Lincolnshire side. Ashton said: “It’s fantastic news. We’ve been working on getting Carlton in for a while now and been in constant contact with him almost daily. He’s eager to get started with us. He’s been offered roles at Football League clubs, but he likes the idea that the club has. He likes what we have proposed, and we like his ideas he has moving forward and has bought into the plan and is joining for the long-term*.”

It is a weird one because Grantham have had a really turbulent few years with a steady turnover of players, managers and directors. Not long ago, a life long supporter stepped up to be Chairwoman as there was no-one able to do it. In the time we have lived here, there have been three new dawns for the club and the introduction of someone who was going to make Grantham the next big local non-league club. In February, three directors resigned and the club was switched to the guardianship of Sheffield businessman, Darren Ashton and two of his friends which is presumably why Palmer got the job. They say they are investing significant money which at Grantham's level is not anywhere near what is needed for National league or League Two.

Alarm bells should be going off in Grantham.

Why is a Sheffield business man interested in Grantham? I don't think Grantham own their ground though. Is it owned by the Council?

What are the odds on Keith Curle turning up there in the future?

I'm sure ttf is aware that Palmer and Curle made their England debuts together, 29 April 1992,to be joined off the bench by young Nigel for cap no.7.Are three managers past and present representing England in the same team a record for a league two club?

Southend United have had Bobby Moore, Peter Taylor, Alvin Martin, Chris Powell and Sol Campbell as managers.

Macclesfield Town have had Paul Ince and Sol Campbell as managers.
