Really happy with that performance, good striker would have buried Reid’s chances. He needs to stop taking so many touches and shoot on sight. Law is the shining star of the latter end of this season.
Looking forward to next season when we can give Clough a rousing welcome.

Thought the same re Reid. One of the coaches need to work on him acting quicker. Less touches, head up quicker.

Could say the same about Matt for FGR. Had chances didn't score any. Reid isn't the answer and will not be starting next season, but constantly having a go at him when we have no other alternative doesn't really help.

I haven’t had a go at him. I’ve said he should have got a shot off quicker.

Wouldn’t surprise me. He’s a weapons grade helmet. I’m amazed he doesn’t get filled in more

A good all round team performance. Yes, a few wasted chances, a dog fight in midfield and a fantastic reaction save. Typical night in league 2 I’d say. Well done to everyone tonight. All we can ask for is everyone giving 100%

As appallingly bad as we were on Saturday we showed again that we can compete with the better teams in this league. Some good performances, and we carved out some really good chances. Let’s stick with the positives.

They are obviously working with him. He generally gets better each match. Don’t forget that it’s his first season in the Football League. He looks a bit stronger and I think they have worked on his running style. He sometimes seemed to be taking twice as many steps as the player next to him! I think he just needs to be a bit calmer in front of goal. He tends to snatch at shots rather than hitting through the ball. When he has had chances where he just uses his instinct he has scored a few, generally from close distance/ scrambles in the box.
I’m trying to be constructive rather than critical.

I think the "spine" of the team is taking shape (on paper).

Stone is young, but improving and should be given more time. He seems to have more confience when he has 2 solid centre backs in front of him

Rawson & Perch would be the current first choice centre backs, but think Clough will want a Des Walker\AJB style player with a bit more speed to partner Rawson

Maris, Clarke, Lapslie and Law will probably become the foundation of the midfield. All can break through the middle, score goals and seem to be able to keep running (when fit)

Bowery has probably sealed his place, he just needs a suitable partner who can read the game a little better than Reid. I'd be trying to get Tyler Walker back.

Decent performance tonight. Lots of positives without 2 of our best players (Clarke & Lapslie) available.

A pattern seems to be occurring against top 7 teams regards performances.
It looks like they are showing what they can do but who is it for?

There's no chance on earth Walker will drop down to league two, he's done his graft in L2 & L1. Good post though!

It’s to do with the style of play of these teams. FGR were not pressing our centre backs at all, just letting us have the ball pretty much until we got into their half. In contract with Grimsby who pressed us at every opportunity.

The better teams allow the opposition space to play because they think they’ll be able to come out on top in an open game, but that actually suits our style more than the scrappy, direct style of the bottom sides.

That's exactly it with Reid . Works very hard . Some of his touches coming back into midfield are good . As a striker though he has literally no idea how to create space for himself . He's played 35 plus games and got the wrong side of a defender once at Oldham .
Bowery put great balls in at least 3 times tonight and others too and he's always in the defenders pocket .
Can it be coached or does he just not have the instinct???
