Nigel Clough seems to like experienced players and so that seems to suggest he may keep James Perch (who he singles out for praise along with Quinn) and possibly Stephen McLaughlin.

Was going to mention this also, definitely can see him keeping perch for back up in multiple positions (RB, CB, CDM) and experience around the dressing room and also Quinn can see him keeping for experience in the midfield to help Lapslie and co. McLaughlin not too sure, but possibly

Perch should be kept on merit anyway IMO, not just because of his experience.

Agree with Perch - he's been very consistent and is a calming influence. Geography might be an issue with McLaughlin.

Perch is a handy player especially considering the positions he can play, McLaughlin not been good enough for me, doesn’t quite fit in.

Landed my McLaughlin wild card  and was right about Sir Mal.

I was wrong about James Perch though. I can only assume now that Nigel Clough is not interested in Brayford.

Isn't Brayford a centre back?

He might be weary of having too many old legs at the back.... saying that was it Portsmouth we played a few years ago that had a 37 year old keeper both centre backs were 34/35 and right back was 30 odd and their experience shone through.

let’s be honest here our defence, defending & keeper were extremely poor, massive change needed

Talking to an ex footballer ( not Stags ) and he reckons the attraction of playing for Clough will be greatly strengthened by the signing of players like Perch. Most Players like to win things and look very closely at the signings and potential signings for any club they are considering joining. Perch is a class act at our level .

Blighted by individual errors I think. Mostly the team as a defensive unit wasn’t bad.

A good goalkeeper solves a lot of problems IMO.

I don’t miss him at all, we need a strong defender with confidence on the ball.

We basically need a brand new defence + GK and a brand new frontline, it’s a lot to ask to get right over one summer.

Updating my original list based on NC's comments on his squad in his interviews

Nigel Clough on squad size for next season:
"We think we've got the nucleus of a good squad. We're talking about bringing in the region of 5, 6, 7 players, something like that, just to bolster it. We've always worked on the lines of 16, 17 senior outfield players, 3 goalkeepers, and 2 or 3 youngsters on top of that."

3 Goalkeepers
New Keeper 1
New Keeper 2
Marek Stech or Aidan Stone

17 Senior Outfield Players
Kellan Gordon
James Perch
Stephen McLaughlin
Farrend Rawson
George Maris
George Lapslie
Ollie Clarke
Stephen Quinn (assuming he will sign)
Harry Charsley
Jordan Bowery
Jamie Reid
New Signing 1 (Centre Half x 1)
New Signing 2 (Centre Half x 2)
New Signing 3 (Left Back)
New Signing 4 (Midfield/Wide Player)
New Signing 5 (Forward x 1)
New Signing 6 (Forward x 2)

3 Youngsters
Jason Law
Tyrese Sinclair
Jimmy Knowles
