Clough's PPG extrapolated over a season would see us finish on 69 points.

No too shabby when you consider according to posters on this forum, we have keepers who can't catch, defenders that can't defend, strikers that can't score and a weak mentality through the squad that sees them choke week in week out. Oh and a manager who doesn't know who his best players are.
Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.

We're fine as a squad for what we are aiming for this season, which is: stay up, push up the league as much as possible, while building momentum and team spirit for next season. Bringing in a different striker just for the sake of having one would have been a mistake. Clough knows who he trusts to be the right fit and he would rather waitfoe him than upset the squad now. He's playing a calculated long game and I think he's right to.

Been saying this for a while now.... He knows we have enough to avoid the drop and won't waste money on players for the sake of it. It also means we can look at some of the youth players, like Law who's doing well.

42%

10/24

Incredibly good when taking over a side 22nd in the table, yet to win a game.

44% if you include the Sunderland game.

Make that 44%, 46% with Sunderland.

But, but, what is it after our horrendous January window....?

Clough is absolutely the right man for the job and this thread is ridiculous but your post seems to indicate that he’s above criticism? We were on a roll coming into the window and we had a genuine opportunity to strengthen and move on. We didn’t. We stuck instead of twisting and came out of the window weaker than we went in which is not how it is supposed to be. I refer you to Bolton who speculated to accumulate and look at how they’ve gone. That could have been us.

I agree, we really only needed one striker to provide an alternative to what we have. I think the mistake wasn't that we didn't try to sign a striker, we did, but that when that fell through we had no back-up. It was not, as others have claimed, a financial decision as we did try to sign two League 1 players who would be on at least the same as those who left.

Now I don't doubt we're atrocious, I'm at the front of that particular bandwagon of how absolutely abysmal we are, but let's stop this rubbish about putting it on Cloughie.

The reason we're so poor is down to Radfords sacking of Flitcroft, appointment of Dempster and appointment of Coughlan.

Dempster and Coughlan have taken a team who finished 4th, killed it's morale, tore up the squad, and replaced everyone half decent with expensive dross on 2 year contracts. While Radford decided we should move away from experienced signings and go for young players with potential resale value, players like O'Keefe, O'Driscoll, Reid and Menayesse! Garbage basically.

The culmination of poor decisions from Radford, poor strategy chopping and changing, and bad signings from bad managers, over the last 3 years is why we are where we are. The squad is more an accident of history rather.than a considered ensemble.

As fnas, we have nothing to be happy about at the moment. Clough is our only positive thing we have to hold onto. He hasn't even had a preseason yet. Give him 4 transfer windows to ship this latest round of deadwood out and see where we are. If he keeps us up, job done this season. Let the man work.

Good post. I'd add that the ambiguity over who was running the club and the Radfords moving to Portugal had an impact too. Their more recnt decisions (making Sharpe CEO and getting Nigel) have given me more hope that better, more long term thinking is the model now.

One of the most damaging things about the chopping and changing of the last few years is the effect it has had on fans expectations. When you're constantly signing players, making silly videos about it and announcements on twitter, not to mention talking about promotion all the time, it means that the fans are straight on the manager's back if he loses a couple. It also heaps pressure on the players.

What we need now is for the Radfords to let DS and NC do their thing without any pressure. They'll get it right if the approach is long-term. Fans, don't feel like we have a right to go up next season. If we don't, but finish too half, we're going in the right direction.

Ian Greaves' record as Stags manager.

1983-1985
P46 W13 D13 L20 (19th - League 2)
P46 W13 D18 L15 (14th - League 2)

1985-1987
P46 W23 D12 L11 (3rd - League 2) (Promotion)
P46 W15 D16 L15 (10th League 1 and EFL Trophy Winners)

I don't think Ian Greaves would have survived as Stags manager in modern times even if he had little money to work with (as was the case).

He wouldn't have survived the first season. 20 defeats

Wilder left the blades, wonder if NC will be in the running?

Is this going to happen every time a job comes higher up?

He has shown loyalty and commitment throughout his career, I’d expect only something special like Forest would tempt him away at the moment.

Poor decision by the Blades. They would be nowhere near the top flight without Wilder. He will walk into a championship club and take them up.
