27/02/21: Crawley Town 2 Exeter City 0 (HT: 0-0)
Possession: 53:47% xG: 2.0 v 0.5

A much needed 3 points for Crawley in the early kick off. This was a tight poor game until Tom Parkes was sent off for a challenge on Nick Tsaroulla in the 51st minute. John Yems said he was lucky not to get three months. Jake Caprice then brought Tsaroulla down in the area and Tom Nichols bravely stepped up to score the penalty after missing his previous two against Leyton Orient and Stevenage. Nichols then provided a great assist with a cross from the left to set up Ashley Nadesan for a tap in on 83 minutes.

Alex Fisher made a rare start for Exeter City with Ryan Bowman being suspended.

Crawley MOM: Jordan Maguire-Drew and Tom Nichols
Exeter City MOM: Jokull Andresson and Jake Taylor.

I didn't think the Parkes challenge was a red card. On the Quest analysis, they thought it was between a yellow and a red (an orange was mentioned!)

John Yems talks utter nonsense after most games, perhaps even more so than Derek Adams.

I'm hoping we win at Crawley in a couple of weeks. We should have stuffed them at home and ended up having to come back from 3-1 down thanks to one-man-team Watters, who is no longer with them.

27/02/21: Forest Green Rovers 3 Colchester United 0 (HT: 2-0)
Possession: 51:49% xG: 1.3 v 0.8

A good win for Forest Green Rovers after a shock 3-1 home defeat to Southend on Tuesday although Nathan Ferguson did score the goal of the season. Very worrying times for Col U. They played ten men for he whole of the 2nd half after Ebou Adams had been sent off and still lost 1-0 when Godwin-Malife was credited with heading in Aaron Collins’ free kick. I thought it was an own goal by Sarpong-Wiredu. Col U could have played all week and still not have scored or created a decent chance.

Forest Green played well in the first and Jamille Matt gave them the lead on 24 minutes heading in an Aaron Collins cross at the back post on 24 minutes. He then made it 2-0 on 31 minutes when he had a header cleared off the line from a Nicky Cadden corner by Sarpong-Wiredu but he picked himself up off the floor and volleyed it in. Matt and Cadden played well in the first half but both went off with injuries at half time.

A disappointing day for Dean Gerken making his 200th appearance for Col U.

FGR MOM: Jamille Matt and Kane Wilson.
COL U MOM: Nobody.

The Ebou Adams sending-off was identical to his sending off against Cheltenham a few weeks ago. Even in the same part of the pitch.

The third goal was indeed credited as a Brendan Wiredu OG by Press Association.

I thought the Tom Parkes challenge was a yellow rather than a red but refs seem very keen to get the red cards out these days. I was worried about Ryan Sweeney yesterday.

Crawley have been going through a bad spell but still have some good players. Jordan Tunnicliffe and Joe McNerney are decent centre halfs and Tony Craig has lots of experience. Jack Powell has been good in midfield and Tom Nichols is a quality player up front. Jordan Maguire-Drew and Ashley Nadeson are also dangerous. Crawley do try and get the ball down and play football so it should be a good game against them. There are no easy games in League 2 as FGR found out on Wednesday.

Bolton kept up the habit of scoring a late winner. Miller, who came on for Doyle, scored the only goal of the game in the 93rd minute. Ian Evatt's former side had a strong penalty appeal turned down just before Miller scored. Although Bolton had much of the possession they struggled to break down a stubborn Barrow defence, until the late, late show.

Tom Parkes hates Mansfield, or at least he used to, so I won’t lose too much sleep over his sending off

It's a good trait to have. Better that than throwing games away late.

Another Super Sub appearance by Arthur Gnahoua with the assist for the goal. Barrow a little unlucky yet again.

Fair do to Evatt there, the old sheep dipper shows a good bit of passion. Why not.

Is this the clip you are referring to Martin?

I don't think it was too bad. I quite like Ian Evatt. He has bravely stuck to his footballing principles despite early results going against him. He's also got a bit of an edge to him. I like managers with that edge like Mark Cooper, Derek Adams, Keith Hill, John Yems, Richie Wellens etc as it makes the interviews more entertaining.

I did say three or four weeks' ago that I fancied Bolton for promotion and at the time the Stags were above them. I was therefore hopeful of a tilt at the play offs ourselves. Bolton have more strength in depth in their squad but we should have beat them at Field Mill.
