Perhaps Nigel is going to bring in his own man. If we have any injuries then he might play Andy Cook at centre half. :)

I’m sure everyone would, but the demand for first team football will be higher with Menayese and his wages will be a lot higher aswell.

Interesting Hurst picked him up after being amongst the favourites for the job here. Obviously liked the look of him when watching our games in preparation for interviews.

I think Rollin could be a really good player at this level with his attributes. If comments about off the field issues are true then I can’t see him staying around, and perhaps explains why NC has been unwilling to play him.

I agree that O'Driscoll doesn't look like he's played at a higher first team level.

After his performance at Cambridge i expected him to push on and when O:Driscoll came on as a sub in the cup game, i thought it strange, this i feel is a turning point in his career and maybe attitude comes into it, or maybe Clough feels playing games will give him experience to challenge next season.

Rollin is starting for Grimsby against Scunthorpe in a back four next to Matty Pollock. Danny Preston (on loan from Forest) is at left back and Matt Green is up front.

Grimsby v Scunthorpe earlier this season was the worst game I have watched in League 2. Grimsby won 1-0 with Matty Pollock scoring the winner from a corner.

Menayese could be the first new player we signed and no fans have actually got to see live. There probably will be more by the end of the window/summer window.

HT: Scunthorpe United 2 Grimsby Town 0

Scunthorpe have scored from two set pieces. Abo Eisa smashed a free kick in from the edge of the area. The second also came from a free kick. Matty Pollock got the wrong side of Ryan Loft and the ball seemed to hit Loft's chest or arm and then fall to the floor. Rollin Menayese seemed to be waiting for James McKeown to collect it a yard out but Loft stuck a leg around and poked it towards goal. It may have hit McKeown sliding out and then hit Rollin before creeping over the line. Paul Hurst has subbed three Grimsby midfield players at half time including Danny Preston.

Unless something drastic happens, I can see Grimsby dropping out of the EFL for a second time=going down

It would be unfair to single Rollin out today when the entire eleven were absolutely rubbish. Matt Green is finished as a striker as well, had a chance that he would’ve buried in a Stags shirt. Got took off. Grimsby are in deep trouble.

He was ok in his first season back with us but soon started to decline and Evans was always right to get rid... think he'd struggle in the national league north. Might link up with cox again soon. Grimsby fans really don't like him

Rollin Menayese was no better or no worse than the rest of the Grimsby team yesterday. The only players who showed some glimmers of match changing talent were Jay Matete (on loan from Fleetwood) and George Williams when he came on as a sub at half time. However it was Matete who went into the back of Abo Eisa on the edge of the area. It was arguably a penalty but Eisa rocketed the free kick into the top corner. Grimsby dominated possession (60%) but had no creativity in midfield and no real threat up front from James Hanson and Matt Green. Matt Green had a good chance in the first half where he ran on to a great through ball from Danny Preston. The Greeny of old would have been straight through on goal and fired a shot in but he allowed Manny Onariase to recover and make a crucial last ditch tackle. The frustrated Paul Hurst subbed three midfield payers at half time (Preston, Hewitt and Wright). It was not really a 3-0 game and the final result did flatter Scunthorpe. The difference between the two sides was Abo Eisa. Ryan Loft also played well up front.

Rollin certainly had a better game than Matty Pollock who was to blame for the second and third goals. He allowed Ryan Loft to get in front of him from the free kick for the second goal and he let Abo Eisa run in behind him for the third goal. Eisa may have been offside when he ran through and scored.

Rollin won all his headers and on the whoscored stats won 4 aerials which was the second highest for both sides. George Taft won 5. He only had a 60% pass success rate mainly because he was hitting a lot of balls down the line or channels when he was in the right back position near the touchline. He made one mistake in the first half where he missed a tackle on Alfie Beestin in the centre which allowed Beestin to play in Devarn Green on goal but James McKeown saved Green's shot.

He had a quite game on Sat and did not do enough to challenge in our back four but its early days yet and we shall see if he comes back to us better for his experience in a relegation fight. This type of experience certainly shows if a player has character

06/02/21: Newport County 1 Grimsby Town 0
Possession: 26:74% xG: 0.8 v 1.9

Rollin Menayese played left centre half with Luke Waterfall at right centre half. Matty Pollock was dropped to the bench. Menayese had a good game and won all of his headers although you would have expected that bearing in mind he was playing against Nicky Maynard and Dom Telford. Rollin also hit two excellent diagonal long passes to Joe Adams and David Lamy on the right. He was unlucky with the goal as he had headed Micky Demetriou’s long throw out of the area.

He's got potential. I know he makes mistakes, but I think that's mainly a confidence thing. It's a shame he's having to play alongside a useless pillock like Waterfall. That won't help his game much.

Luke Waterfall is a solid League 2 defender with a bit of an edge who has over 200 league games under his belt for Lincoln, Shrewsbury and Grimsby. I'm sure Rollin will benefit playing with him even if it is just to make him a bit nastier and try and bully forwards more. He can also help him improve his water bottle throwing skills.

I'm going to miss seeing Luke Waterfall getting sent off again at Field Mill this season.
