Disappointing result and agree that it’s showed the lack of depth in the squad.

I though O’Keefe did ok. McLaughlan just doesn’t do enough in my opinion.

Reid really is a level too high for his ability. It’s a regular theme that we get up the pitch better with Cook on the field.

Hopefully we’ll see a bit of transfer activity
In the next few days and more importantly, I hope Clarke isn’t out for long

That loss is down to how thin our first team squad is at the moment and how poor the bench options are
Throw into that injuries and illness, and I thought how well we've done to be competitive for the whole 120 minutes. How anybody can moan about Charlsleu and Lapslie is beyond me!

Chortle. It’s what you all wanted so you could whine some more.

Sad weird little man

You think people will be happy with this?

Yeah I actually do. I see a perverse pleasure in wallowing in pity.

Truth is we were beaten by the better team. That’s it. We move on.

MTFCMusings spot on my friend. They were by far the better team. We ran, competed and rushed around but had no reply. They were much better on the ball and bullied us. Squad is limited but hey ho extra cup games is not what we need with no supporters being allowed in the grounds.

I agree with that. 3 games in 8 days v no game for 12 days . That's a massive effort from the lads.

I don't think we've learned anything today we didn't know although we definitely missed Clarke and Perch.

First goal an unfortunate error.

Much prefer league survival than FA Cup despite extra money. No complaints, we know who Cheltenham are, big, strong, defend for their lives, long throws cause havoc and niggling hands in face which the ref missed.
No complaints today from me either, Cloughie knows the way forward, let’s hope that Clarke is fit for Wednesday as the midfield and team were lost without his leadership. Will be good to get Maynard and Perch back as well.
Mansfield Town, my club even though been exiled in London since 1983.

No complaints, we haven’t been good enough and looked tired compared to a energetic Cheltenham side.

We played poorly and deserved to lose. We shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that we’d played 3 games I. 8 days and they were fresh.

Reid works hard but offers little. Cook is just a much more awkward player for defenders. He wins flicks, he turns his man, the ball just seems to stick to him.

I’d play Cook as a starter over Reid. We looked much better in the first half of ET once he got into the game.

I thought Rawson was our MOTM.

Poor performance.. Last thing we needed was extra time.
Cheltenham did play well but I think we made them look better than they were.
The only consolation I can take out of it, is if it was a league game we would of got a point.
They haven't played since end of December, they got injured players back so I expected them to fresher. I just hope it doesn't affect the Oldham game. We looked shattered.
Cloughie should of change formation earlier.
Mclaughlin is a waste of a shirt. Still not impressed with Reid.
Looking at the circumstances with us playing midweek and having players out I suppose we didn't do to bad overall. We move on.

Shame to go out and miss out on the money, as they are likely to get a good draw, but what does it matter without fans, much rather have had our recent league run than win today, stay up now and build

I keep saying it Reid should be nowhere near the first team, he simply offers to little, he does not hold the ball up or read the game well enough at this stage, it really is like having 10 men on the pitch at times, how cook is below him in the pecking order is beyond me, even if cook has first 70 then try someting else, 1 league goal is simply no return for your main man up top.

Had I said to anyone, after five games of this season, that we would exit the worlds best cup competition in the third round, after extra time you would have had me committed. Yes, we lost; , we weren’t for long periods at the races and yes it shows a lack of depth in the squad.

Today showed what a shallow squad though large in numbers we have. And that there is a long way to go. Had we drawn away at Cheltenham in the league all the doom mongers would not be within ten feet of their keyboards. Our welcome distraction to the damage limitation and repair work that Nigel has to do this season has come to an end, as we knew it would. Never mind.

Cheltenham were the better side and deserved to win. The first Cheltenham goal was due to an unfortunate slip by Charsley but well taken by MOM Alfie May. Cheltenham scored the winner from their 10th long throw of the game. I think Ryan Sweeney lost Will Boyle. Our best players were Sweeney, Rawson, O'Keeffe and Stech.

Nigel Clough has made us a tougher side to beat even when we do not play well.

Awful sub performance by O'Driscoll who kept giving the ball away and who looked knackered.

We clearly need back up for Ollie Clarke in midfield. We missed his physical presence, running and energy today.

Unfortunately we allowed Cheltenham to bully us today. Our midfield & attack were poor and while the defence dug in, they couldn’t hold out for 120 minutes. The lack of options from the bench is a concern.

Very disappointed with the outcome but knew we would struggle without Perch and Clark. I think we would have won that had they played.

Despite all the pressure the defence coped well and only a very unlucky slip meant the game went to extra time. The ref had a shocker and should have done something about the continuous use of arms across the face and head.

Overall it was the correct result but it could easily have gone the other way. The fighting spirit shown will get us up the table and a possible top ten finish as long as we get Clark and Perch back in the short term.

Good effort lads but unfortunately no cigar.

lifestags wrote:Really frustrating at going out here, that game shows we need our squad adding too, I might sound harsh but if players like Maynard dont want to be here then they need to hurry up and raspberry off, all game we struggled with their set pieces and throw ins, its like we just couldnt do anything about it. We didnt impose ourself the game after we scored at all, we needed loads more from our forward players today, the ball just kept coming back all the time, Reid is so inconsistent, hell play really well 1 in 5 and it just isnt good enough. We got bossed in Midfield today hardly won any second balls at all we really missed Clarke. Hoping some players are added before our next league game, im not sure why there has been a delay until after this game but its cost us today.

Where does this bull come from again and again on this forum ?
Why do people think he doesn't want to be here ?
Any evidence to support this ?
The manager tells us he is injured. Why would he lie ?
Maynard is the best striker we have, and one of the best in the division as proven by his goal tally over the previous 2 seasons.
Aren't we supposed to be supporters ?

Beaten fair and square by a team assembled over a few years now...
Cheltenham are at least 2 seasons ahead of where we are in terms of identity , stability and effectiveness in their chosen style of play..
We can all see we are lacking in certain areas so NC will be relying on his brother to strengthen there..

I expect some positive moves in the market in the next few days to give us a boost for the rest of the season...

NC will then massively reshape this squad over the summer ready to have a proper go next year...

We are in way better position now than we were 2 months ago, be happy we got NC through the door.
These are my opinions , if you don't like them I have others...
