I saw a post on Facebook today from Sue Bird today that made my heart ache, so I thought I would try in my humble way to let Kev, Sue and his family just what he means to me and I'm sure every Stag.
A Special Kind of Bird
How you made our voices sing,
Our special Bird needs no wing.
To soar so high within our heart,
In our greatest days you were such a part.
The passion and pride you gave us all,
Your every ounce to win the ball.
The strength you gave to all around,
The safety felt throughout the ground.
Although a great defender by trade,
Sixty three times their backline paid.
Your two arms raised in sheer delight,
Then back to work the foe to smite.
You graced The Mill for eleven years,
Gave us dreams, dispelled our fears.
When your playing time was done,
You returned to us, the prodigal son.
Time to speak to both young and old,
Unassuming of the esteem you hold.
No photo request ever to much,
A heart of gold and gentle touch.
Now’s the time to pay our debt,
To let you know we don’t forget.
From all Stags here and above,
To a special Bird fly our love.
Cause youth’s a mask, and it don’t last.
Live it long and live it fast.
