Home Advantage

For those interested about home advantage and crowds:

The effect on home win advantage has been very small and in fact the only big change is the number of away bookings, which have fallen by a significant amount.

It's not a surprising conclusion. Basically, referees are scared of upsetting the home fans so tend to clamp down on the away team.

Compare with this study which is Premier league matches over last 2 seasons.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55203896
Only a 3.7% advantage at home without crowds compared with 14.8% before.
Or put another way there have been almost 9% less home wins, 25% more away wins and less draws.
There could be a VAR effect due to different interpretations this season but that is hard to interpret without looking at other figures.

I always remember Neil Bishop saying that Mansfield would do better at home with no fans (or something along those lines).

Yes, clearly
