Bowery never made a pass, not even an unsuccessful one
What an impact.
Sweeneys cross field passes are awful on the eye and this proves mostly unsuccessful as well.

Not great is it, three negative actions only in 20 minutes.

I wonder if management sees this.

Hi the pass map is really interesting.
I also found the golden square article interesting thanks for sharing.
Is there a way to change the colours on the blog? I appreciate they are the teams colours but it can be difficult to read.
Not much matches Mansfield

Thanks mate.
If you contact me privately I can arrange for it to be sent to you in a more readable format?
Cheers.

Hi Sam
Are the yellow arrows successful passes and red arrows unsuccesful passes?

We sit far too deep as a team. Far too many passes side to side especially across the back. When Rawson, Sweeney and Menayese tried a forward pass it was generally unsuccessful. We also do not move the ball quick enough whether with a back three or back four.
I thought James Perch had his best game against Morecambe but he still sits far too deep on top of the centre halfs and makes too many backwards and sideways passes. He hardly gets over the halfway line. Our best spell was in the first half when he pushed up 15/20 yards. We need someone in that role who has more pace and mobility. Alex Macdonald would have done a better job. I bet James Perch does not run 11k per game. If Perch is earning anywhere near what Macca was earning then that is another sacking offence.

I agree we sit deep, think it’s to counteract the lack of pace of Sweeney and Rawson. Perch then has to sit deep to get the ball off the defenders, and to cover the space they leave. His job is not to get over the halfway line.
Perch and Macca are completely different players, and play different positions.

I'd rather have someone like Macca in that role than Perch even with Macca's limitations. I'd even prefer Chris Clements after watching him play the other night after watching the Morecambe game. He moves the ball quicker. Everything is very ponderous and slow with Rawson and Perch in the centre at the back. My gut instinct is that Perch has just used his connections to line up a last pay day and will prove to be bad signing. I wonder if David Sharpe recommended signing him and Jordan Bowery? If so then not a great start.
If we are playing a back four then I wonder if we will get to see Perch in his natural right back position. Round pegs in round holes.

I’d agree with Clements, but not Macca. Macca couldn’t keep the ball. Perch has been one of our better players IMO, he’s only being targeted because the more ‘creative’ players haven’t done their jobs so far.
It’s been made clear Perch was signed as a midfield player.

I think Perch has done a reasonable job and we look much better with him there.
It’s hardly his fault if he is being told to play a bit deeper as cover for the backs. The problem isn’t the players it’s the system and tactics.
GC says he played 4-3-3 on Tuesday but it was more of a 4-5-1 with only one true striker on the pitch. We did look much improved but not potent up front especially when Bowery replaced Cook. We had more width but not enough in the middle to capitalise on it. If we are going to keep this style our midfielders need to gethigher to capitalise on the throughballs and pull backs
Hello! Hello! We are the North Stand Boys.
