If we'd have held on against Bolton at home they would be in the playoffs and we would of finished 11th.
Who knows where we would be if that break for the weather had not happened.

Probably where we are now, with Bowery/Reid as our Dynamic Duo up front we were never going to score enough to win enough games to challenge in reality.

We have a lot to thank them both for during December/January, some very important games won with thier goals.
We've seen how Quinn has improved our midfield and who knows how much Akins would of improved our strike force.
All ifs buts and maybes.

Shows that if we’d twisted instead of sticking in the transfer window, we’d have been up there.

I don’t think it was the intention to stick, things just didn’t work out with the targets.

Assists/goal involvements final table.

Once again this is a ball from the player that has led to a goal, it may have taken a deflection off the opposition player but fell to our player, or a Free Kick/Penalty that they have won.

Who have we got in the play offs? What day is the game on? What time is kick off?

A graph from a CEO, or the experienced manager, who has admitted he doesn’t understand xg, saying it’s obvious we’re poor in both boxes but ok in midfield? Umm! Who to let train and pick the team, I can’t decide.

What is your point in the last paragraph? It seems to be that the data backs up managers opinion, but that somehow means that we shouldn’t look at what the CEO has posted (even though he’s just screenshotted a graph from a website)

You also seem to be under the impression that someone has said we should let the CEO pick and train the team because he posted a graph

I think Cloughy said he doesn’t understand how xG is worked out, rather than he doesn’t understand what it is.

Darragh MacAnthony is a big data and stats man. He uses it for recruitment and for games and Peterborough have just been promoted.

If we had Aguero up front instead of Reid would our xg go up?

xG does not take into account the ability of the player taking the shot, so no.

A slight flaw on the system I think, I will half it for league 2 teams when I see it.

Simply put xG is the likelihood of a goal occurring from a shot. Doesn't matter who is taking the shot.

Every attempt on goal is rated between 0 (nobody has ever scored from this position ever) and 1 (nobody has ever not scored from this position ever)

As we know players can score from pretty much anywhere and players can miss shots that looked easier to score.

Quinn's goal would be rated highly, open net and everything (say 0.8). A shot from distance would be rated low because there's lots of variables that can keep it out (say 0.2)

What the xG is is all those attempts on goal are rated similar to what I put in brackets and are added up and that gives you your xG. It's how many goals you'd deserve from thst game. You create 3 or 4 very good chances you'd expect at least one of them to go in.

Useful for identifying whether you are creating good chances regularly and if you are or aren't taking them.

Once you start taking into account the player taking the shot its no longer statistics but biased depending on the person's opinion of the player.

Surprisingly only a xG victory of 1.9 vs 0.9 yesterday.
