It looks like the Stags are averaging around 12-13 attempts on goal a game but also giving up 12-13 attempts to the opposition. We are scoring a goal after every 12-13 attempts but conceding a goal after every 8-9 attempts. Our attack is classified as "energetically wasteful" whereas our defence is "competent but busy".

Do they factor into the xG Bowery and Reid up front, surely that would reduce it drastically?

No. Player ability is not taken into account. It’s to measure quality of chances created.

Might put this in my bio for the amount of times I’ve said it

But it's xG which is expected goals not xQ expected quality?

Do you "expect" Reid and Bowery to finish chances so it's a huge factor?

Why When Were How Who, answer these questions and you can work on solutions , this is why clubs have statisticians to enable players to do their jobs and define solutions.
Fans decide players are crap a easy solution, but in reality teaching experience to job expectations, or personnel changes required in certain areas.
Football is a simple game but application and defining skills vital .

Of course it’s a huge factor. That’s the point. If you’re underperforming your xG it shows you’re creating quality chances but your players aren’t finishing them. That’s one of its uses.

Our defence is not as bad as the "everybody's raspberry" fans are making out. We are around 12= on goals conceded and the defence has been better since we moved to a back four under Richard Cooper and Nigel Clough. Farrend Rawson in particular looks more comfortable although he played in a back three at Forest Green Rovers. Rollin Menayese also did well at Cambridge. Mal Benning has defended better under Nigel Clough. He's the first manager to point him out for going missing in defence. Kellan Gordon's defending has also improved this season. He's much better at blocking crosses and his defensive headers have also improved. He now needs to track runners and get tighter to attackers.

Lots of experienced football coaches will tell you that getting a back three to work effectively can take a lot of organising and coaching. DF was the best so far at the Stags at doing this and using it as a good attacking platform as well. Steve Parkin, Paul Cox and Adam Murray played a back three it was more like a permanent back five.

This is a great example of how the underlying stats are useful.

Broomo posted Clough’s record so far.

P12 W6 D4 L2. Put that over a season and it’s about promotion form.

At the same there is statistical evidence that we are improving, despite some frustrating performances when measured by ‘eye’.

Getting the balance between the data and the coaches opinion correct is a recipe for success.

Well blow me down with a feather. Is that true? There you have it folks the stats prove what not one of us has noticed, we are better under 'Our Nigel' than we were under the worst manager in our history.
