Number of iFollow Match Day Passes Sold (£8.34 net per pass)

Postby Tippy Tappy Football » Mon Sep 28, 2020 8:11 pm

The only stats I have been able to find so far are from Col U, Walsall and Morecambe

A club receives £8.34 per ifollow match day pass sold (£8.34 plus VAT = £10)

For home league games, the club receives £8.34 for all the match day passes purchased by home fans and £8.34 for the first 500 match day passes purchased by away fans.

For away league games, the club receives £8.34 for all match day passes purchased over 500.

For League Cup and EFL Trophy games the club receives 50% of all revenue generated from iFollow.

League 2 Games
Bradford City v Colchester United
Bradford City - 9,000 season tickets
Col U - 300+

Walsall v Grimsby Town
Walsall - 300 (plus 2,000 season tickets)
Grimsby Town - 1,100

Colchester United v Bolton Wanderers
Col U - 452 (plus 540 season tickets)
Bolton Wanderers - 2,252

Harrogate Town v Walsall
Walsall - 751

Barrow v Colchester United
Col U - 514

Cambridge United v Tranmere Rovers
Cambridge United - 645 plus season tickets
Cambridge are ranked 9th for iFollow passes sold.

League Cup
Morecambe v Newcastle United - 5,931

EFL Trophy
Bristol Rovers v Col U
Col U - 172

Why did you research that?
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

I'm just interested in the income being generated from iFollow match day passes to get some idea of how much gate money clubs are losing on match days. I'm also interested to see if there is any increase in sales as fans become more used to this form of access or as a club starts to have a good season. It would be good if the Stags published their figures.

It's also interesting for the "you've got no fans!" arguments

Do we know how the free access for ST holders worked? Have the club had to pay (or pay a portion of) the difference? Ie the £1.66. I guess some kind of deal was done.

no I don't think the club has had to pay the difference, as you describe it.

The £1.66 is the VAT element, so will still be paid on the ST income.

You've still got to pay for the dodgy box, so not 100% cheaper. Nowt like helping the club out financially in a time of crisis is there?

Being a season ticket holder I am happy to purchase a match pass for all the games. This money will go towards helping the club through these difficult times.

The club need to be all over this on their social media, blocking people who advertise free streaming by piggy backing off the club's ifollow adverts.

If there are 1,000 people that think like that (a stretch, I know), that insignificant tenner suddenly becomes £460,000. Not so insignificant, even to a Multi-millionaire.

Yep I’ve seen them on FB and it is something that needs stamping on. It’s theft.

The ironic thing is that the illegal IPTV streams usually run better than the paid service

https://www.cambridge-united.co.uk/news ... w-support/

Amber Army THANK YOU! Your support by watching the U’s on iFollow has increased with every single match played so far this season, but we really need that to continue!

Since the start of the campaign the Club have ranked 9th overall in Sky Bet League Two for match passes sold, and for this weekend’s visit of Tranmere Rovers the Club moved up to 6th with over 645 match passes sold in addition to our season ticket holders redeeming their free access codes. So the Amber Army have really got us challenging the top seven, despite the Club comparatively not having one of the larger core fanbases in the division.

For home games the Club also receive the first 500 match pass sales from the away team, which equally means when the U's head on the road, it's vitally impotant all Cambridge United fans - season ticket holders and non-STH - support the U's in order to help the Club make a profit.

In truth given these incredibly challenging times, we not only need that support to continue, but for more U’s fans wherever they are in the world to help the Club by simply booking out Saturday afternoon’s as time to watch the U’s live in action.

If you have been watching United on iFollow, please encourage your fellow fans to follow suit, whether you live in Histon or Hong Kong!

Robbie Cowling, the Colchester United Chairman stated that they received around £8,000 for selling 952 ifollow match day passes (452 Col U fans + 500 Bolton fans) but in normal times the club would have expected around £54,000 in gate receipts.

Whereas Bolton received around £14,500 for selling 1,752 ifollow match day passes (2,252-500) compared to around £600 they would normally have received in commission for selling away tickets.

The rule on home clubs only being allowed to keep the income from the first 500 ifollow match day passes purchased by away fans was clearly brought in to benefit the larger clubs.
