With Rose and Maynard fully fit we may have won it and created more. I think Bowery’s strengths lie in holding the ball up and linking the attack, rather than in front of goal.

No Al said it from day one when he signed, today just reinforced the view.
Seen him many times, never impressed, not good enough.

The chance today after Cooks fantastic work, he looked like a welder plucked from Nevilles on Bradder Street, never shaped up to look like scoring.

Very good first game of season performance. Can’t think of anyone that had a bad game though Bowery and Mal need to improve a little. Good solid team performance, clean sheet just missing the most important thing at the other end. Overall very encouraging

Agree I think Bowery is our worst signing.Sinclair will be a regular he has something about him.Charsley better look out.Benning still a weak link.We will be better when mclaughlin plays.Overall happy with the team and I like the manager too.Expect us to be challenging for a play-off place at least.

I wonder if Bowery might work better in a 433 or as a very attacking central midfielder, he’s clearly got the stuff in the air but so has cook, so playing them together wasn’t going to work but given rose and maynard have been injured and Maynard unfit it is what it is.

Bowery upfront with one other forward doesn’t look a promising way forward

I didn’t think anybody played bad today, surprised by some reactions regarding certain players.

Benning and Bowery are gunna have it tough this season, you can already tell.

Harrogate's 4-0 win away at Southend was the biggest win by a side in their first ever game in the English Football League since Stalybridge Celtic beat Chesterfield 6-0 in August 1921.

Well done Stalybridge!

Billy the fish and diablo are the reasons why I hate this site sometimes

Very promising display we were on top for the majority and should have won it, need to kick on for next game

Midfield seems very creative compared to last year

But one of the off targets hit the underside of the bar. Stats eh? ;)

BTW how did Tranmere have 52% possession?

I think we were more long ball than they were.

This is an observation not a moan, as I thought we had some moments of neat passing

I don’t think cook and Bowery makes a good partnership they are too similar.

Defence and midfield looked good though.

I think when one of your main attacking tactics is crossing the ball, the odds are you’re going to lose the ball quite a lot, same with the long channel balls. The encouraging this today is we picked up most of the second balls.

Long ball is fine. Not a problem with it. If we do a Wimbledon and make the Premier League I will be happy. More than one way to gain points other than tika taka or heavy metal football. Direct and simple. We just need a goal scorer, ala Maynard to fire on all cylinders!!! COYS

Definitely true regarding Bowery and Cook. Can’t see that lasting.

Excellent first performance, the front partnership probably cost us the game... Bowery did some stuff well but when it mattered showed his lack of finishing ability... Maynard would have bagged but I understand he was short on fitness..I’d have gone with him for an hour with the aim to take him off as he’s our main threat

Early days but encouraging I thought.

Defence settled well after some shaky pre season displays.

Midfield load better than for some seasons.

Up front Cook was very good pity the two golden chances fell to Bowery who I worked hard but lack a first touch.

Not unhappy as Tranmere showed themselves to be a good side and will be challenging at the top no doubt.

What I loved about Clarke was when it was right to play a simple pass and get it back and keep the ball moving he did it... When we needed to or had a good chance to get it fast quick, by a direct long ball or through ball on the deck he did it. Very much the way Lincoln played when they went up.

I liked us today, just missing a clear cut chance but that will come. Tranmere apparently one of the better sides, we will hurt most in this league with this style of play.

Cook was immense and GC says he's lost 10kg or whatever, he ran his socks off and was a handful. Fans will appreciate him this year
