Don't know what's up with Benning, he just looks very lazy and not arsed at all about being here. That's not just a recent thing, he's looked like that for ages

Tonked by some kids.

3-0 full time.

Had a corner at the end after some very good play from Gordon. Free header for Smith but an easy enough save for the keeper.

Smith hasn't done enough to trouble the bench on Saturday imo.

I know the circumstances of both games, but 7 goals conceded and 0 scored in our first 2 ‘competitive’ fixtures is not good and won’t do any favours for morale.

Our defence is definitely a big concern for me.

Quick question:

Why do we want players not able to trouble the bench?

3 against Rotherham
3 against Man City
4 against Burnley
4 against Preston

Fair to say the defence has had a tough time already. Onto competitive games now.

How anybody can call what Flitcroft put out, compared with the trash that's been served up for the last 14 month, must be blind at the very least.

Are we just gonna cream over 6 months of decent football that Flitcroft achieved for the rest of eternity? Move on man

We've already played 2 competitive games..... And got spanked in both.
Gotta admit I'm a tad worried... Jury still out on coughlan for me.

Gk is going to get injured with a bad back at this rate from picking it out of the net so often!
Tranmere is where the season starts, but it doesn't look good, and Tranmere have been put together pretty quickly, not signed in advance like our side, yet the defence are still really shaky and have any of the front two looked like a partnership yet? It's worrying, but let's hope our worries are put to bed by 5pm saturday!

To get a spanking against an U21 team with our first choice defence and goalkeeper playing definitely does not inspire confidence!

Bobby boy get yourself to spec savers man( you’ll have to book in these Covid times ) GC looks to have turned a poor defence into an atrocious one

Neither competitive game really matters. And we didn't get "spanked" in the second half - bad mistakes from two players made the scoreline look more impressive than City deserved. You can see that there's plenty of work to do, particularly if we want to look impressive against Championship / Premier League clubs, but it's there for Coughlan to see and he won't be expecting to cruise the league.

Putting words in to my mouth there. The defending wasn't good tonight, but it's just funny to see people think Flitcroft was some footballing Messiah.

We played against some good players tonight

I saw Smith play once. That was enough for me to think he isn’t league level. Seems nothing has changed since.

Wouldn’t worry too much about Smith, he’s 6th choice midfielder.

How Smith gets near the team never mind a start is beyond me. He proves time and time again he is not good enough. Leyton Orient at home another example last season. GC must have had question marks hence the 1 year deal but needs to be moved on or released when the contract expires.

Not at all surprised. Every year we apparently make class, league beating signings. Every year 90% of them of are bang average for us, until they leave to play at a higher level and somehow flourish. All you can do is keep progressing as a team. Since flitcroft we've gone backwards.

The rot started with Flitcroft at the helm, not since Flitcroft - the stats prove that point.

Anyway lets see what happens Saturday.

Ps. Before anyone accuses me of a flitcroft love in, I am not saying that. I was making a point about progression. All I am saying is that if, as some people think, flitcroft was a turd, then we have been served a sewarage farm since his departure. Here's hoping we come good, given time to gel as a team

This. Their U21 team is better than most league 2 sides on paper. If we played against a team with Arnold, Brewster, Greenwood, Winks, McTominay, Rashford etc would anyone say tonked by some kids. No. These kids are brilliant footballers. If you’re good enough your old enough. The class of 92 at United (kids by the way) tonked everyone!!!
