League 2 Friendlies

Bristol Rovers 2 Exeter City 1 (HT: 1-0)
Watched the stream of this game. It was supposed to have been 2 x 65 minute matches but the referee suddenly told the managers before kick off that he would be only playing 2 x 45 minutes.

Rovers dominated early on and Jayden Mitchell-Lawson (on loan from Derby) gave Rovers the lead from a Alex Rodman cross. Exeter City gradually grew into the game and had plenty of possession without creating too many chances. They are a well organised side and move the ball around well. I think they will be up there challenging for promotion again. They have signed Jake Caprice as a right back from Tranmere and Rory McArdle at centre half from Scunthorpe.

Youngster Cam Hargreaves put Rovers 2-0 up at the start of the 2nd half. Exeter then pulled a goal back from a corner when Mansfield lad and former Gas player, Tom Parkes, scored from a Matt Jay short corner. Both sides then made numerous substitutions. Jonson Clarke Harris had a terrible game and looked unfit. He seemed to be constantly moaning and swearing at himself but the Rovers commentators said he's normally like that. One Rovers fan on their forum said JCH "reported back unfit, overweight and in a condition that is far from befitting a professional footballer." He has been offered a new contract and some fans think they should sell him with figures of £750,000 being mentioned.

Rovers fans thought that Portsmouth player, Adam May, came on a trialist for Rovers. I think someone mentioned his name on here as a possible signing for the Stags. Nicky Ajose and Alex Fisher came on as 2nd half subs for Exeter and Ajose put a free kick over the bar.

The Rovers commentators confirmed that Abu Agogo and Kyle Bennett have been told they can leave and mentioned that Agogo is very good at the "dirty side of the game". They were also excited that Ben Garner was starting with a 4-3-3 rather than GC's wing backs but then noted that Rovers seemed to have quickly switched to a back five.

Port Vale 1 Blackpool 2 (HT: 0-1)

Watched this game on You Tube. Tom Pope missed a penalty after Teddy Howe had shoved him in the back. Jerry Yates played up front for Blackpool and shot narrowly wide. Sully Kaikai gave Blackpool the lead scoring at the back post from a corner. HT: 0-1

Port Vale changed their whole team at half time. They have plenty of strength in depth and were not bringing on youngsters. They equalized when Scott Burgess seized on an error by Marvin Ekpiteta at centre half who had been playing well. Blackpool then went back in front after Zak Mills lost the ball to Blackpool's other former Swindon player, Keshi Anderson, on the edge of the area and he slotted the ball home. Blackpool then changed their whole team for the last 30 minutes and CJ Hamilton came on and played wide right in a 4-3-3. The Vale commentator was not too happy because he said CJ always plays well against them. His pace caused Port Vale loads of problems and he could easily have had a hat trick. He was through on goal twice but the keeper saved both times. He also ran the length of the pitch down the left on a counter attack from a Port Vale corner but scuffed his shot at goal after cutting into the area.

Kieran Hayes came on late for Port Vale as a trialist from Forest. Former Port Vale player, Phil Sproson, is Jake Taylor's agent so he has good contacts at Forest.

Port Vale fans seem to think that the Stags are looking to buy their way out of League 2 and will be up there challenging with comments like "Moneybags Mansfield must come good sometime as should Bradford City" and "Salford and Mansfield are looking to buy their way out of League Two."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOfRk5JyJYI

CJ comes on around 1 hour 28 mins

Nice Port Vale home kit designed by Robbie Williams. Port Vale have a feel good factor at the moment due to the new owners and I think they will be expecting to be up there challenging for a top seven position. They are more solid than spectacular but they have kept most of the team from last season which finished 8th. They would have made the play offs if the season had finished a week earlier.

That’s great if it’s correct. He’s done well for himself.

Eisa and Barks scored for Scunthorpe. No trialists. Nathan Thomas played as a 2nd half trialist for Donny. Donny also gave a trial to Ed Williams, a 25 year old midfield player from Kidderminster Harriers and he played very well. It looks like they are signing him.

Blackpool 2 Barrow 1 (HT: 1-0)
Jordan Thorniley gave Blackpool the lead with a header from a corner. Angus Dior equalised for Barrow in the 2nd half but Teddy Howe played in Matty Virtue in the 83rd minute for him to score the winner.

Another good 60 minutes for CJ Hamilton playing up front on the right hand side of a 4-3-3 although stopping wide. He cut in well from the left beating three men before his shot was blocked, missed another one on one with the keeper and had a shot saved.

Blackpool XI for first 60 mins: Maxwell, Turton, Nottingham, Thorniley (Husband), Shaw, Robson, Ward, Sarkic, Hamilton, Kaikai, Madine
Blackpool XI for final 30 mins: Sims, Howe, Ekpiteta, Husband, Shaw, Antwi, Virtue, Anderson, Feeney, Devitt, Yates

Barrow: Dixon, J. Jones, Burns, Younger, Smith-Brown, Hindle, Beadling, M Jones, Hardcastle, Penfold, Quigley
Subs: Brown, Brough, Taylor, Hird, Gribbin, Lillis, Burns, Byrom, Angus, Danns, McGladdery, Younger

Just checked the Barrow website - It was Joel Byrom on trial for Barrow.

Salford City 1 Lincoln City 0 (HT: 1-0)
Salford started very brightly and scored from a quick counter attack when Lincoln lost possession of the ball on the edge of Salford's area. Ashley Hunter broke up the pitch and played the ball through to Ian Henderson who dinked it over the keeper. Lincoln finally woke up around 35 minutes and could have had 3 or 4 goals before half time with Tom Hopper being the main culprit missing chances. Zak Elbouzedi was attacking a lot down the left. Reminded me of a deranged Nicky Hunt for some reason. Lincoln also dominated the 2nd half until both sides made changes and then Salford started to have more possession particularly when Darron Gibson came on for Salford. Jorge Grant came on for the last 20 minutes for Lincoln.

Salford have great strength in depth but they may struggle to comply with the salary cap without sending some of their players out on loan. I note Dan Gardner played for them against Crewe.

Salford
Nick Hayes
Oscar Threlkeld, Tom Clarke, Ashley Eastman, Ibou Touray
Richie Towell,
Ian Henderson, Ashley Hunter, Jason Lowe
Luke Armstrong, Brandon Thomas-Asante

Subs: Darron Gibson, Danny Lloyd, Jordan Turnbull, Dan Jones, Martin Smith, Alex Denny, Dan Hawkins, Trialist (right back)
Sat game out: Bruno Andrade, Tom Elliott, James Wilson
