Also odds on for Newport first game of the season and Crawley the last

Have we played at University of Bolton Stadium before?

I don’t think so. I’ve been there, it’s a nice stadium. It’s on a retail park which can make parking a bit difficult.

Hope it's not at the start of the season, I'd love to be able to go. The same Bradford and Harrogate fixtures

I liked Burnden Park. Proper ground. Until they built that COOP on the end.

FA Cup replays have been scrapped for this season to help with potential fixture congestion.

Looks like the season kicks off with the league cup

As I mentioned the other day on a different thread it was done a few seasons while we were in the conference.

Hopefully a confidence boosting win.

I wonder if clubs will take the much (and rightfully so) maligned trophy competition given the state of clubs finances

Hopefully the EFL will not have done something stupid like scheduling derby games for the first games when fans are not allowed in the ground.

Does anyone know how this works these days? I'm sure that years ago we seemed to have decent games on boxing day or on bank holidays but is it all just computer generated now?

Looked back to 1970s, the season always kicked off the league cup 1st round on a Saturday.

Me neither. League Cup was always first midweek

It’s all computer generated. The football clubs and police give them recommendations as to when to put games on, when they have got certain things on already that they can’t have a football match on. For example Cheltenham will not have a home game during the festival. Forest and Notts are meant to both be away during goose fair but obviously Notts aren’t included in that now. The clubs get the fixtures a few days before they’re released so they can check things I’ve just mentioned then they are released to us lot afterwards. They’re still not always perfect so then they get moved as and when.

The National League is still done by hand by them.

Most league fixtures are complied or assisted by computer. Even the North Eastern Counties are based upon a computer spreadsheet so I would find it hard to imagine that the Conference fixtures are done manually. That said though, all programs are only as good as the person feeding the information in.

There was an excellent article about it when we were down there that showed how it was done. I wonder if Martin has got it still? It used to be done by one bloke on his own!!

I probably have but that was 8 years ago. I haven't kept up to date on how they do it in the Conference now.
