Good luck to CJ Hamilton in his move to Blackpool. Thanks for the memories CJ ... and there are plenty of them. I'm going to pick out three here but I could have picked out many others ...

Love how depressing some are, he would not commit to a new contract so we’ve made sure to get a fee for him.

The players we got rid are mostly players that have renewed contracts once or twice, I bet we can get players of a similar skill level for less money.

Our fan base is too spoilt from JR spending, we still need to make money on players when possible.

I'll wait to see his replacement but this has given my confidence in both promotion and style of play quite a knock. CJ never stopped running and was the one player who I thought had the stamina to play the pressing game all day long and still come back for more. I just hope we are more than a hard hitting, set piece specialist team next season.
I'm disappointed too. As I was when Clucas was sold for next to nothing. Added to the fact we will also be without Khan, Pearce, White and more than likely Maynard.
I suppose we will have to wait and see who GC brings in.

CJ is nowhere near as good a Clucas.

Sounds to me they are already thinking of selling on for a big profit.
Me too.
You'd have thought that we would have learned the lesson with the embarrassing sale of Clucas too those over the M1. History likely to repeat itself.

I think they’ve got the best fee they could given the circumstances and only one year left on his deal. He didn’t want to commit to the club so they’ve cashed in whilst they could.

I'm sure David Sharpe's contacts will help us sign up a few young players with loads of potential from higher league squads.

It is concerning when you look at who we have left from last season - they’re not as good as the ones that I listed above.

In my opinion:
Pearce is better than Sweeney
Maynard is FAR better than Rose
White is comfortably better than Riley (and lets not forget that Riley has been more injury prone than White has over his career so far)
We’ve got nobody else currently who can provide what CJ did in terms of lightening pace and his ability to plug in at several different positions - he’s going to be hard to replace.

Blackpool have got a bargain if they play him in the right position. Goals and assists will come their way. He is a forward. Never a wingback.

Sharpe did say in his interview he wanted a young and hungry squad, but the players we let go were mainly older, experienced players (Pearce, Bishop, Logan, Davies) and they need replacing too. If we went in to next season with a squad entirely consisting of youth players and u25's, many on here would slate the board and manager for being naive and not having a squad with any experience in it...

It is about balance and it is inevitable that we will sign a couple of older players (Clarke at 28 is hardly old and could easily perform at a good level for 5 years).

I am sad to see CJ go but being blunt, 2-300k is a bloody good fee considering the season he has just had and the fact that Coronavirus will likely have an effect on valuations of players for the next season or two, by which time CJ's contract would've been up with us.

Like you said, no need to panic (unless Maynard doesn't sign a new deal  )

Could bite us in the harris this if we haven't got a decent sell on clause....
Would never get "big" money for him while we in league 2 but the key is the sell on....
Whatever people think of him if you don't see the potential the guy has you're watching the wrong sport...

Good luck CJ.

He didn’t want to extend his contract, like Clucas.

He’s 26 soon......leaving it a bit late to show his potential. Some fans would have you believe he’s only 21

Yes but he was in the last year of his contract... we would have got nothing for him. This is good business.
Pearce is more experienced than Sweeney and clearly wanted to go
Whites latest injury took its toll
Maynard and Rose are v different players
Chill out , take a positive pill and wait until the start of the season

Said on a previous thread jury is still out on GC but now with his own players he really can’t afford a bad start to the season the recruitment needs to be right and not just signing his mates..

This has Stephen McLaughlin all over it

The fact that McLaughlin is a left sided midfielder adds credence to this theory, I would have hoped for someone a bit younger.

CJ leaving frees up good money and the fee, whatever it is, will be welcome too.
