This signing has raised my hopes a good few notches. He knows the managers style ,work rate and managerial attributes and has turned down an offer and probably the captaincy to join us . Our manager knows the player, his skills ,desire and attitude .

Can’t say I have ever seen him play but to quote posters who comment on every signing as though they have watched then since they were under 12’s - seems to be a cracking signing.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up if you’re going by the twitter rumours.

Happy with the Clarke signing, sounds like a ball winner who is also a goal threat.

I am more thinking about different contracts being up, so Maynard could be going or staying, and I wonder if a centre half might be announced. I also think there could be some significant moves at other clubs

Of course with all these new players they'll 'need time to gel' won't they ;) . So we can't expect much for the first 4 months of next season whenever that'll be.

Still need two centre backs, a top striker and a midfielder, minimum.

Ollie Clarke could be the best Stags signing. He could be the solid hardworking unspectacular midfield player you need to get promoted. He is described in the Bristol Post as "tenacious, tough-tackling and relentless. He can do a bit of everything. Blocking and tackling is one of the best aspects of his game. In an ideal world, Clarke would be given total freedom in the midfield with his talents at both sweeping up dangerous attacks and kick starting them at the other end."

Graham Coughlin said he was a player who could go higher than League 1 and play in The Championship but some Gas fans say that League 2 is his level.

Ollie Clarke is from Brizzle and he's a one club man. He progressed through the youth system and has made 201(34) league appearances and scored 20 goals for the Gas since making his debut at the end of the 2010-2011 season. His best goalscoring season was 2018-2019 when he scored 6 goals. He only scored 1 goal last season.

Our midfield last season. Was about as useful as the french army.

It’s about time we had someone in there who will ruffle the feathers and get stuck in, it’s been too long since we’ve had that.

Not surprising given GCs play, can’t see us being soft touches under him for sure

I agree that our midfield was bad last season. However, with regards to “ruffling feathers and getting stuck in”, isn’t that the only thing that Bishop, Macca and Tomlinson maybe had going for them? Our midfields biggest problem last season (again) was that we didn’t have the players who were willing to get on the ball, be composed and get us playing.

Having said that, our midfield was walked through far too often by opposing midfields last season despite the ‘grafters’ we had in there. Coughlan should get us more organised on that front.

I’m hopeful that Clarke can bring some balance to the midfield and be a player who’s competent both with and without the ball.

Me too Hitchcock!!! I’m a bit more hopeful this time around. It seems less gung-ho and more calibrated.

Agreed about the hope side of things.

I want to do it more then ever this season, watching the jealous comments on twitter from other fans about us ''buying the league again'' even though we are signing free agents is really annoying.

I'm looking forward to seeing this lad play. If he has all the right attributes in terms of skill, energy, application, this should provide some positive inspiration for the likes of Charsley and Tomlinson.
